The Adventures of Huckleberry Fin is about a boy who never really had much; he was born into rags and lived in rags his entire life until he was taken in by the Widow Douglas, who gave him clothes and tried to educate him. Huck did end up reading and continued school for a while, even if he only continued school just to spite his father. Huck hated and feared his father, seeing how Pap was unpredictable and was the town drunk. Lily’s father in the Secret Life of Bees also struck fear in his child. You could tell Lily was afraid of her father, seeing how she hesitated to tell him about events such as her birthday.
The conflict theory is used to criticize society, rather than explain it. Humanity is seen to be organized into groups depending on their social status, or power. In “The Family Stone” when Everett brings his girlfriend Meredith home for the first time there is a clear imbalance between the powers of her as an individual verses that of the Stones. Before Meredith had even arrived at the house there was a certain impression of her based on the opinion of Everett’s sister, Amy, who openly expressed her dislike for Meredith. When she came into their home there was an obvious difference, she was very proper, anxious, and stressed.

Derek’s mother did not readily accept morso into her home, nor did she treat him as an equal. She essentially neglect Morso and made it so much harder for him to settle in. She was very rude to him and would not even speak to him.

Zulema always tries to persuade Doris to move to Stafford house which is an old people’s home, but Doris despises the thought of Stafford house, ‘I don’t want to be stuck with a lot of old lasses’, this is humorous as she is an aged old aged lady herself, just like the people in Stafford house. She doesn’t consider herself as one of those ‘old lasses’. It’s as if throughout the play she is making gradual steps in deciding to die. She regrets not having children because her husband has died and now she feels isolated and lonely, as she doesn’t know many people anymore.
I believe that when they first got married there was some kind of love in their relationship, but when they realized they could not conceive a child Don Elias blamed his wife. Even though it was most likely he was the infertile one, he treated her as if all she was good for was to take care of him like a maid. This is what made her a hard, bitter old woman.
