Evelyn Abdul Dr. Cohen English 102 11/13/11 "The Case of the Haunted Gainsborough” was strikingly similar to the previous films we have witnessed. It was compelling, smart, interesting, along with its humor and twists made it advanced for it’s time. The characters Sherlock Holmes, Dr. Watson, Mr. McGregor, and Heather each played an important role in the movie that made it relevant yet devastatingly witty. At first it convinces the audience that through a watchful eye and common sense anyone could crack a case and prove it with evidence. However, it ends with an ambiguous note; that not everything may seem as they appear. It starts off as Mr. McGregor asks Sherlock Holmes and his colleague Dr. Watson to investigate the haunting of his ancestral castle. The next scene is when the pair of investigators arrives at the McGregor castle and Holmes is about to remark of the ghost’s picture when she suddenly appears. My response to this scene was that there would be a possible recursion between the windows and the candle light doused out when the ghost would always make an appearance. The ghost holding the only light source in the room is a symbol that she holds the secret to finding the family’s fortune and to appease her. As Holmes chases after her they search outside the door where she left only to find no one is there. The next scene was very odd because when the ghost busters went onto the balcony the ghost appeared and was flirting with Holmes. As she vanished they couldn’t find any rational or sane answers to what they have just witnessed and time is of the essence. Holmes immediately puts his logical skills into action by devising a plan to catch the ghost as she would normally ascend the stairs to solve the mystery the old fashioned way. However, it turns
