In “The Essay and the Essayist” E. B. White introduces, describes, and applauds the essaywriter. He introduces the essayist as an easygoing person who is relaxed and prone to observation and insight. He paints this person as an egoist—self-absorbed and not quite fragile, but definitely sensitive. He presents a list of characters that this person is capable of playing, and then takes on each role, thus illustrating his point.

The Odyssey The Odyssey is an epic poem about spiritual journey and how it can bring out the hero in people, and if they are true to themselves, they will always pull through. Odysseus is put through so much struggle and pain, but in the long run it actually ends up helping him become mentally and physically tough by testing his faith in his skills. The King of Ithaca finds himself in many great challenges where he proves to everyone around him, along with himself, that he has found his true identity. Odysseus has always been an honorable and respected man in his small kingdom, and many citizens are starting to see the number of capabilities he has, along with something inside of him that not even Odysseus knows he has. For instance, Odysseus remains strong for his crew, even in the toughest situations, like keeping his men under control while they are crossing paths with Scylla, so the adventurers have some kind of stability.
It was very easy to comprehend what he believed, and easy to see why he felt this way. While I think that it was a well written essay, I disagree with many points that the author made. I do not believe that Franklin’s virtues are a paradox. I believe that Franklin’s virtues are well thought out and are all beneficial rules to live
I could relate to Maya as in how he’s really nice and caring, and likes to have fun. This book wasn’t predictable you could never really guess what was coming next and that’s one of the best things about the author. I think Maya wrote the book to entertain people, while showing people that theirs always more in life, and that people should really make the best out of their lives. I would recommend this book to people who enjoy books and voice like the author has. It’s an amazing book and filled with funny enjoyable moments that will leave you reading wondering what’s next.
The narrators constantly accepted events that could not have possibly happened in the real life world. They accepted these peculiarities without the slightest amount of shock and astonishment, like it was an everyday thing. Placida Linero, who is Santiago Nasar'smother is a prime example of superstition within the novel. The quote, "She had a well earned reputation as an accurate interpreter of other people's dream, provided they were told to her before eating, but she hadn't notice any ominous augury in those two dream of her son's" conveys that Santiago's character also represents the element of magical realism in the novel. The statement, " Nor did Santiago Nasar recognize the omen" not only reveals his superstition, but also the common faith put in superstition.
First Impressions in Pride & Prejudice Every time I meet someone new, I think to myself, “I have to make a good first impression.” First impressions can be extremely important because they can sometimes form a definite representation of the person. First impressions are lasting impressions. Many people feel the need to make a good first impression, as they may feel like others are judging them. We live in a very subconscious society. We care too much of what others think of us.
The Great Gatsby Passage 2 Commentary F. Scott Fitzgerald gave his novel The Great Gatsby much more depth than is first observed by the reader. One can read the novel, and be completely enthralled by the story without noticing the complexity it contains. A closer look at the novel reveals so much more to the reader than could be imagined, by examining the careful word choice chosen by the author. In this passage, Fitzgerald makes particular use of his language to make evident the theme of pride. Pride can be a good thing, but it can often have negative connotations.
Kempis lived a relatively quiet life and his work seemed to be well received during his time. Even though Kempis’s work at the time was not ground breaking and didn’t cause a huge stir it still laid the ground work many Christian and historical teachings done today. The imitation of Christ is one of the most published and revered books in the world not just because it was written many years ago but because of its unique and powerful message that is still relevant in today’s society. In the initial reading of The Imitation of Christ, one would see it simply as a manual to living a clean and spiritual life. This book however goes beyond that simple assertion of character.
