Some of these tales are thought to be forerunners to a few European fairy tales. Charles Perrault was a French author who lived from 1628 – 1703, he was the first main author who collated pre – folk tales and turned them into the fairy tales we know today. Some of them included popular fairy tales Little Red riding Hood, Cinderella, Puss in Boots and Sleeping Beauty. Many of these stories were re written by Brothers Grimm, some of their stories still continue today having been adapted to opera, theatre and film showing their work is appreciated and enjoyed by all types of format. Brothers Grimm were two Brothers Jacob and Wilhelm who are well known storytellers of folk tales popularizing many fairy tales such as Cinderella, Hansel and Gretel, Rumplestilstkin, Rapunzel, Snow White and others.
In Miyazaki Hayao’s Spirited Away (2001) anime film, it professed customary adaptation of cliché fairy tale storylines wherein two characters meet to overcome life-threatening challenges; eventually fall in love then live happily ever after. However, the film distinguishes itself from traditional fairy tales by exhibiting a unique context which catches the interest of both children and grown-ups. Spirited Away and fairy tales both incorporate the illusive appeal of magic in their stories. Magic is one of the things that hooks children to admire and devote themselves into the world of fairy tales. Their young minds are overwhelmed in awe that powerful forces like these may exist and allows them escape their reality.
J.R.R. Tolkien writes, “The fairy-story is a foretaste of a life that does not consist on ‘endless serial living’ but nourishes ‘the oldest and deepest desire: the Great Escape’- from death itself (dlibrary.acu.edu).” These books are a great way for the mind to take a brief breather from all the problems and stress that are created in the world around us. When you read Harry Potter it frees you from the cling that one has on the world as it is or the idea of the boring disenchanting real world. Harry Potter being a fantasy story gives us the opportunity to let our mind make sense of something that is not in our realm of reality. These kinds of stories let our imagination grab hold of us and take us to a world that only the brain can conjure up.
Actually, one of the pioneers for putting gender issues out in society is Disney. Disney has been pushing the line when it comes to gender issues for many years now. As a matter of fact, the article “Disney reflects gender/racial issues in cartoons” I just recently read by Ben Presley had a well written argument about gender issues in Disney. Presley did a good job presenting his argument because he consulted a reliable source; his source used accurate examples, and used appropriate word usage in his article. Presley uses a reliable source in the article, Harry Mersmann when stating his argument.
In this essay, all of these causal relationships will be examined individually. Keywords: wizarding, Voldemort, Hogwarts, Triwizard Tournament, horcrux Harry Potter: Motives of “The Chosen One” Many people have a favorite literary friend or fictional character they love to visit. There’s always that special movie, show or book that you always call on so you can reconnect with your favorite companion. But, what makes them tick? What makes them do the things they do?
Differentiate between a myth and a legend. Provide an example of each from children’s literature. Discuss why you would categorize each one as either a myth or a legend. Storytelling is common to every culture, a fact which is not surprising as most everyone enjoys both sharing and listening to stories. Since the dawn of civilization, storytellers have crafted tales to entertain and enthrall audiences, sharing lessons about life and offering glimpses into their cultural heritage along the way.
The setting captures the feel and effect of what the author is trying to get through to the reader. The theme in this novel appears to be that angels do exist. By this I mean; somebody might look normal on the outside but on the inside they are very different. For example Mickey and Lena were scared at first of Kimmy but when they got to know him Kimmy turned out to be very kind. Various other situations point towards Kimmy being an angel as well.
Both stories share many similarities that contribute to each tales individual message or moral. Both versions of the story also share many differences that are strongly due in part to the stories intended audience and message. One major difference between the stories is the development of the corruption of innocence of the protagonist. Walt Disney referred to his little mermaid as Ariel, and to Hans Christian Anderson she was a nameless teenage mermaid. Anderson presented a family with a mother, father, and six daughters; Disney presented a family with just a father and a daughter.
Many, if not all, of Disney’s fairytale movies stem from some story passed down through generations throughout different cultures. Some of the most seemingly innocent movies we see today come from a more deranged version of the story. A story that has a little more of a gruesome past than most is Sleeping Beauty. The oldest form of the tale is from an old Italian fable by Giambattista Basile titled “Sole, Luna e Talia” (Sun, Moon and Talia). While Disney did manage to stay pretty close to the basic story line, they had to water down many of the details in order to make a more child-friendly film; the enchanting characters, the wicked curse, the actual beauty being laid to rest, her meeting the love of her life, all the way to the defeat of the antagonist differ from the original.
Walt Disney had impacted all of us with opening the worlds view with his imagination, animated movies and beyond. The book titled Walt Disney; The Triumph of the American Imagination by Neal Gabler explains his many accomplishments in getting to that point. Disney stories have always been something I cherished as a child which made me interested in learning more about Walt Disney. Learning more about him and his experiences in becoming successful helped me gain a new perspective. Before reading the book, I knew the basics about Walt Disney.
