That ‘70s Show Alejandra Carranza Professor: Lever May 15, 2014 Some might not agree but the media plays a big role in today’s society. More and more families own a television if not a television a laptop or video games. The affect of media is overpowering and widespread. All over the world, the media has impacted children and adults; it has been a powerful force in influencing individual’s insights. Especially if “the average American spends about 33 percent of his or her leisure time watching television” (Renzetti and Curran, 151) it gives us a picture that Americans are far by entertain by the media instead of doing something productive. These show first aired on August 23, 1998 and final season aired on May 18, 2006 this is a scripted half hour series focuses on a group of teenagers living in a fictional town of Point Place, Wisconsin. The main characters names are Eric Forman “geeky one”, Donna Pinciotti “Eric feminist girlfriend”, Steven Hyde a “school drop out”, Michael Kelso “ladies man” and Jackie Burkhart “diva”, Fez goofy foreigner. Eric parents also play an important role Red Forman (veteran father) and Kitty (full time mother). The four episodes that I analyze were chosen randomly from season one to season five. One of my findings actually did not hold up to be true. In “That ‘70s Show” females played a minor role they were not as important as the males, the men in this show are not seen doing any type of house work if there is very minimal. However, females in the show do play an authoritative role. Which is kind of surprising because they weren’t that important in the show by a small percentage. I will admit it felt good when I saw Donna being authoritative and not seen as weak, nurturing she was seen as strong and independent. Even though this show makes women be seen less and all the time in the kitchen while men are seen to be more important, doing other things besides housework it does show an authoritative female. Is not a big change but something is better then
