The overall period of adolescence is generally characterized by instability, uncertainty and challenge. (Craig & Dunn, 257) Teen drivers are at very high risk for all crash types which involves the composition of distinct factors like the attributes and behaviors of the drivers, period in the day or week and the context of the vehicle. From general study, teens are seen to be high-risk takers, which shows in their driving inexperience, underdeveloped skills and immaturity. This shows in other words novelty seeking behavior of the teen.
This has increased the rate of auto accidents, socially and emotionally distracted us from friends and family, cell phone users have put their own safety at risk while using their phone just walking down the street, and have caused distractions in the class room as well. People who text while driving are not only putting their own lives in danger, but also passengers in their vehicle and others on the road around them. There are so many fatalities on the roads today due to cell phone users. Just looking down at your phone for a second can cause an accident that could have been prevented if they would have just waited to reply to a text message or waited to answer a phone call until they were completely stopped and in a safe place to do so. Use of the cell phone while driving also seems to cause people to drive slower and not pay as much attention when changing lanes.
To engage ourselves in a construcive work, we have started a campaign to spread awareness about accidents related to cell phones and driving. In the year 2008 alone, nearly 6,000 American residents lost their lives because of accidents related to a cell phone use while driving. Moreover, car crashes and texting via cell phones while driving have been related more closely in recent years. Cell phones usage while driving has been rated to be far more dangerous than drunk driving, which highlights the dangers of using cell phones when we are commuting from one destination to the other.
However, this also proves to be a deadly distraction while using a cell phone while operating a motor vehicle. So far this year in the United States, there has been an estimated amount of over 500,000 crashes involving drivers using cell phones and texting. (Council, 2011) With the growing number of electronic devices deployed over the last decade, these new devices provide an even greater opportunity for distraction and growing the risks that are attributed to more and more crashes and fatalities. Texting and driving is a huge problem for teen drivers because everywhere you go, everywhere you look you constantly see teens on their phones texting or playing games… This makes it extremely difficult to pay attention to what’s going on around you, especially while driving. Texting while your behind the wheel of a car, even if your only at a stop light is still extremely dangerous… for example if your texting while at a red light and you see the guy next to you move forward a little then who’s to say that you don’t mistake it as the light turning green and move to go past the light only to get into a wreck? Texting while driving doesn’t only put you in danger but others around you in danger as well… We don’t exactly think much about what the consequence to our action is when we do it but there is still a consequence to everything we do in life. According to the AAA’s survey of teen drivers, 46 percent of the teen’s text message while driving and 51 percent talk on cell phones while driving.
And the result can be just as deadly” .Most cases, accidents are caused by children under the age 16 driving, drinking while driving, or taking on the phone and text messaging while driving. These are very dangerous to life and others. A driver's license for a teenager is a milestone and one of the biggest events in young lives. Of course the independence it gives teens is wonderful, but it can be quite frightening to a parent when one’s child drives a car. Teens will have to handle a lot of instructions and rules of the road, and they must be ready for this responsibility, so teens must take driving lessons.
This habit has increased for the past 10 years due to the enlargement of technology. Due to this problem people get killed or severally hurt, you don’t know it but you’re hurting yourself and others. Another bad thing about texting or talking on the phone while driving is that you can get pulled over and get a ticket. Driving while texting or talking can be a bad example for others or your kids because by you doing they probably think that they can to so it can be dangerous. There are also many under age drivers on the road that makes driving on the road more dangerous for them and anyone driving that day.
