Erica Dixon December 5, 2013 Walden University Winter Prevention, Intervention, and Consultation COUN 6785 Case Study Teenage Prevention In week one case study, Teenage pregnancy has increased over the past ten years. The clinics in the area do not have staff that are addressing the issue. The local high schools are addressing the area in the 11th grade by an abstinence policy. There are some adult in the community that are voicing various opinions. Some adults are saying how the teenage mothers are being irresponsible. Some adults in the community believe that the mothers are trying to be responsible for their actions (Case Study notes). This case study will be addressed from a preventive measured. How prevention can be applied, an analysis of the preventionist role along with necessary skills a preventionist should have will be discussed. Prevention means to stop something from occurring (Gladding, & Newsome, 2003). Prevention can be applied to help combat the increasing problem of teenage mothers in this urban city. Using the correct preventive measures could reduce the number of teenage mothers. Preventive measures should be addressed in the school, home and in the community. Local clinics and health facilities could set up programs that address teenage pregnancy. Local clinics focusing on primary prevention techniques could prevent undesirable outcomes in the future or help promote more desirable outcomes (Gladding, & Newsome, 2003). Primary prevention is done to reduce the risk factors for undesirable outcomes. There are many indirect services that aide in prevention. A collaboration between parents, school and community agencies can greatly reduce the number of teenage mothers. Schools can began early using preventive measures before the child reaches eleventh grade. By the eleventh grade children may have experimented with sex. School
