Community nurses need to be aware of the trends that are obviously having an effect on families. In this case, the first events seen may be an increase in high school dropout rate and fewer children receiving their immunizations. These both could be a result of teen pregnancies and a lack of resources available. One helpful community nursing diagnosis is ineffective community coping. With rising rates in unplanned pregnancies and birth, prevention needs to start somewhere.
If more parents have their children vaccinated, then more children in the community will be protected against catching an illness. This lowers the chance of an outbreak of the disease. If children are vaccinated, it reduces the risk of pregnant women passing the virus on to their fetus or newborn. A child can be denied attendance at schools or child care facilities if the child is not vaccinated as per the government guideline. Some diseases that can otherwise be prevented by vaccination can result in prolonged disabilities

If parents take more responsibility then there will be less binge drinking by adolescents. Parents have a clear influence in adolescent binge drinking, and they need to take responsibility through the use of open communication, through supervision, and through modeling and influences. The communication a parent has with his or her child from an early age is key in influencing the child’s decisions about drinking in the future. Parents must provide children with accurate and relatable information. Parents should inform their children about the negative effects of alcohol to the body, to family, and to friends.
A study in the American Journal of Public Health found that students who attend schools that provide condoms are reporting more safe sex practices during intercourse than students who attend schools without these programs. According to other studies, 66% of females and 68% of males are having sexual intercourse before the age of 18 regardless as to whether they use condoms are not. For those against making condoms available in schools, many feel that even though students may practice safe sex, schools are encouraging young people into being more sexually active. In addition, opponents feel that parents should decide if their teen has access to condoms and schools should not take away this right. Many people against the programs that allow schools to give out condoms feel that instead, there should be more emphasis on sexual education programs to educate students about the dangers and risks of having sex and to promote abstinence.
Abstinence has begun to lower the rates of teenage pregnancy both in the United States of America and in the Bahamas. As it becomes more widespread in our country, it will surely have a positive impact on our society. Abstinence in Teens Advocates for Youth said, “Accurate, balanced sex education-including information about contraception and condoms-is a basic human right of youth” (p. 1). Today’s youth should be thoroughly informed of what sex entails and how effective and beneficial the use of contraceptives are. One of the main types of contraception rarely used today is abstinence.
Experiencing a parental divorce, young adults see divorce as a solution to a problematic marriage. They have a weak sense of commitment, so they turn to divorce as a way out of a troubled relationship. One way in which this issue is being corrected is through the implementation of providing knowledgeable education to young adults in terms of knowing how to have healthy relationship skills. 2. Delineation of the problem One article (Johnson, 2010) states that according to the United States Census Bureau, in 2005, the ratio of marriages to divorce annually was estimated to be approximately 2:1 (United States Census Bureau, 2000).
There are also groups within a society who are vulnerable based on their low socioeconomic status, prominent among which are teenage mothers. Most teenage mothers are products of unplanned pregnancies, which force them out of school or other formal training institutions, imposing on them lives of adulthood for which they are not prepared. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC, 2012) reported that Teen Pregnancy Prevention programs seem to be working such that, at a rate of 31.3 live births per 1000 women between ages 15-19 in United States, in 2011, it accounts for an 8% drop compared to 2010. However, teen pregnancy issue is still crucial that it remains one of CDC’s top six priorities. Lavin & Cox (2012) opined that the teen pregnancy is still a subject of public concern in United States despite the fact that the rate is declining every year.
Educating communities and children about the dangers of substance abuse and violence, the behavior will decline. Government intervention has the following goals in mind: • Reducing crime; • Lower substance abuse; • Improve educational outcomes, such as test scores and graduation rates; • Decrease teen pregnancy; • Reduce suicide rates among youth; • Reduce child abuse and neglect
