Many argue that if more citizens carried weapons, criminals would be less likely to commit violent crimes. On the flip side, many others are willing to fight against it. Government officials should take matters into their hands and start regulating better safety guidelines including the right for school safety officers to carry guns to protect the wellbeing of those in any school structure building as
To prevent school shootings, and other future gun crimes, it is important to help kids with mental problems at a young age. More mental-health counsellors and anti-bullying resources for schools would be a good place to start, because that taking away the American’s right to own a gun is probably not going to happen anytime soon. Although many people are totally against children playing with an imitation of a deadly weapon, I however feel it is necessary to inform the minds of our future on the proper use of guns, what happens when a gun is misused, and also, how to safely store a registered gun, to prevent it from getting into the wrong hands. Guns are beneficial for many different reasons. The proper use and reason of owning a gun is important to teach children. Guns can be used in hunting, to feed a family or for the sport of game; guns are used in war to protect and serve the people of the country from terrorist; guns are also beneficial to have for safety in the home. If children are never taught how to properly use a weapon, it can turn into a dangerous tool.
Let Teachers Carry Firearms on School Grounds School shootings are horrific events that have been happening way too often recently in our society. These events are usually caused by either: a student who has been bullied and pushed too far to the point of feeling that killing people is a good idea, a person with mental problems, or an adult wanting to display an act of terrorism. However, in recent years, schools have learned from these events and have taken the initiative in upgrading school security. They have added bulletproof glass on doors, keypads, and armed student resource officers. One thing that could be the deciding factor for whether a student or staff member lives or dies.
Jamie O’Meara’s Idea is that for children to lose interest in using guns there should be gun education as part of the school’s curriculum. He believes not only that it will remove the mystery but teach children to be responsible with guns. With that, gun education in schools is an idea which needs support. Teaching gun education will remove the curiosity and glamour of guns, cut down on accidental injuries and deaths, and promotes the idea of a gun being a tool and not a weapon. Firstly, exposing children to guns and gun education will take away from the curiosity they might have later in life that would have led to an issue or incident.
Ivins states that she supports the Second Amendment: “A well–regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of people to bear arms shall not be infringed,”(437) and that adolescents in our society are NOT part of a well-regulated militia: “[there are] teenage drug dealers…cruising the cites of this nation perforating their fellow citizens with assault rifles” (437). Basically, “fourteen-year-olds are not part of a well-regulated militia”(437). Ivins then compares an automobile with a gun, and how they can both harm people, if not used correctly. Ivins also makes a very good point when she says that, “we do, however, license [cars] them and their owners, restrict their use to presumably sane and sober adults and keep track of who sells them to whom. At a minimum, we should do same with guns”(437).
Carr/English Composition 1301 Patricia Montemayor Professor Carr English Composition 1301 August 28, 2013 Concealed Handguns on Campus, Should Students Be Allowed To Carry? Without a doubt, there is a greater safety concern in our school/college campuses today. There is a higher sense of danger in a place where once thought to be a safe haven for students to go and educate their minds. Today the controversy of weapons on campus to protect those who attend has climbed to the top of the list of school administrators, government officials, and media coverage. This is due to the current events occurring not just in our country but all over the world where countless students and adults have lost their lives to individual(s) coming into schools for reasons never really explained they take innocent lives.
Should we train and allow school faculty members to carry weapons to help keep our children safe or should we find other methods of early detections to stop these events from happening. “Three hundred twenty-three students have died in documented school shootings over the past 15 years” (Esposito, 2007). School shootings have been much broadcasted over
Caleb Robbs Mrs. Hodgdon English III 2 May 2013 Gun control What do people think about when they hear gun control? Do thing about overruling or safety? The second amendment allows people the right to bear arms, it also allows people to own guns for self-defense and hunting. The government should not try and change the 2nd Amendment. They should not be able to take away our rights that were given to us long ago.
Arming Teachers I think violence should never be fought with more violence. Fighting a gunman with guns does not eliminate the problem of school shootings. I think arming our teachers is a bad idea if you consider all of the risk factors. A small child could find the gun hidden in the room and easily harm themselves. If a teacher had a gun it would have to be hidden somewhere, but not in a locked place for quick access if someone were to open fire.
