Observers in the town remark how the once-beautiful Delia has lost her shine because of her abusive husband. A practical joker, Sykes scares Delia fifteen years by using her fear of snakes. Delia has come to the conclusion that she does not need Sykes nor his abuse, particularly considering it is her wages that paid for their home. Sykes is a stereotypical abusive husband. He physically and mentally abuses Delia, takes her income while failing to make his own, and has an affair on the side.
He began his life liking his mother, but when she whipped him for dropping some eggs when he was performing magic, he lost all respect for her and came to thoroughly dislike her. She was very controlling and had bad mood swings. Because of her controlling and manipulative ways, Dunstan became isolated from and untrusting of Fifth Business .... out of disagreements. Eddie felt humiliated about where she was raised, she didn't want to be associated with the "scandals" that belonged to the shacks north of the creek. She believed that, since she grew up in the shacks, she was worth less than the next person. Edith was embarrassed by her drunken father, even though none of his actions were ever her fault. Her mother, a "hallelujah-shouting fool" who preached, but never actually went to church, was also a huge contributor to the way Eddie felt. With people tormenting her about her cousins who were teen moms, or her father who made a fool of his drunken self in public, the poor girl felt like nothing more than dirt, and she wanted to be thought of as flawless and beautiful.
Then when she gave birth to her twins sons, she acted as if she did not want them and I believe that Cathy was selfish was because she shot her husband in the shoulder. Also Faye left all of her earnings and possessions, including the brothel to Cathy in her will. So in order to take advantage of Faye Cathy poisoned her until she died. I do not think this was right of Cathy because Faye truly seemed to care about her. If I had the opportunity to meet Catherine Amesbury or Cathy Ames I would not take it.
Then George warned Lennie to keep away from her; “Listen to me you crazy bastard, don’t you even look at that bitch. I don’t care what she says and what she does, I seen ‘em poison before but never seen no piece of jail bait worse than her.” Curley’s wife causes tension on the ranch because she annoys and embarrasses Curley by wandering around the ranch flirting. This makes Curley angry and feel humiliated because his wife is always seeking the attention of other men. Curley got angry with the other worker because his wife is often disappearing and he felt as if the other man laughed at him because he could not keep control of his wife. “If you can’t keep control of your god-damn wife what do you want me to do about it?” Curley’s wife’s behaviour on the ranch angered Curley so much that he often vented his anger on the other men because Lennie was laughing to himself.
Sykes, on the other hand, is as evil as Delia is good. This is never more apparent when he answers Delia's question as to why he enjoys making her suffer: "'If you such a big fool dat you got to have a fit over a earth worm or a string, Ah don't keer how bad Ah skeer you'" (883). Unempathetic to the hardships and fears his wife endures, Sykes sees sport in all aspects of life, including frightening his wife. Abusive and unfaithful, Sykes doesn't care how his infidelity is seen not only by his wife but by the townspeople as well. His lack of morality and faith, his rejection in the belief of the same moral equanimity that Delia fosters in, frees him from the constraints of personal or communal responsibility.
His wives, especially the youngest, lived in perpetual fear of his fiery temper, and so did his little children.” This demonstrates the fear his family feels towards him. Later in chapter three his anger gets him in trouble when he disobeys the village and beats his wife during the week of peace. This is demonstrated in the book when it states, “And when she returned he beat her very heavily. In his anger he had forgotten that it was the Week of Peace.” After this event his fellow clansmen began to think less of him. Additionally, the novel continues to tell the story of Okonkwo and his family.
Perhaps, because she saved one life, the rest would have to fall. Her actions led to terrible suffering for Creon and his family; almost like a curse. Haemon, her fiancé, was so in love with her that he actually fought with his father, the King, for her rights. When he could not do anything about Antigone being buried alive, he stabbed himself out of grief for his love with Antigone and anger towards his father. Because of the son’s death, Creon’s wife, too, killed herself out of grief.
Un-fortune things don’t work out the way she wants it to. Susie watches her family and friends fall apart in her heaven. She watches her father struggle to nail the man he suspects who killed his daughter, her mother commit adultery and leave the family, and the man who murdered her skip town and feel the guilt catch up with him where ever he goes.Jack Salmon was a father of three. Sufiya’s father did not want a daughter, he was ashamed of her. This shame that was then projected onto her, which made her feel ashamed herself. To begin with, the book starts off with the background behind one of the main character’s lives. Three siblings, Chhunni, Munnee, and Bunny, had a father who hated them, after he died they decided to have a party since their father wouldn’t let them leave the house while he was still alive. During the party, one of them had, had sex, which happened to be against their religion since she was not married.
