In the article “Superhero Obsession: Why We Love Fantasy” by Jon Meyersohn the author is trying to argue that, despite the fictitiousness of comic books and the extent to comic book characters seem superior to normal human beings, comic book characters have proven to be some of the most influential sources of inspiration, either for good or bad. In the article it said that the Great Depression was the perfect time to give rise to one of the greatest superhero’s to have ever existed, Superman, the “Man of Steel”. It was during this time that Superman provided people with a symbol of hope that was desperately needed during a time of uncertainty and financial catastrophe. I mainly find conflict with this part of the article when the author talks about Jesus as a superhero, this is because Jesus was real. “Every era creates the superheroes it needs.” He was a real person that was born in the city of Bethlehem to Mary and Joseph, but his true father was God. In addition, to this Jesus’ miraculous powers were not bestowed to him from birth of his own accord, but rather he was able to do these things through the Holy Spirit. Other than this, I do agree with the main message of the article that people try to emulate the actions of superheroes, “that it's an impulse, we have this need to transcend human weakness and immortalize ourselves." We as a people try to surpass the limitations of a normal human being such as Usain Bolt’s running skill, Michael Phelps swimming talent, or CPL Craig Harrison’s marksmanship. In the recent movie, “The Avengers”, Nick Fury brings together all the heroes of recent and moderately recent Marvel films; Thor, Hulk/Dr. Banner, Captain America, Iron Man, as well as, Black Widow, and Hawkeye. These six heroes are put together on a secret military/law enforcement agency called “S.H.I.E.L.D” to stop Thor’s Asgardian brother, Loki from taking over Earth. Throughout the film the team is struggling to cooperate cohesively, until the film progresses towards the climax of the film and the team must put their petty squabbles…show more content…
There are always going to be megalomaniacal people in the world that try to rule over people and will use all their money, political power, military power, and power of persuasion to get people to either follow them or pay for their insolence. This is seems like a close resemblance to Hitler and how influential he was to rally the people of Germany and much later people from all across the globe to continue following in his belief that a master race of blonde haired, blue eyed people was the perfect race and that every other race needed to be
