Professor Reilly Exemplification Essay 7/3/14 Super Mom If I had to identify someone as a role model or hero in my life, I would have to say that it would be Dede Lee. Dede lives on the outskirts of Waco, Texas. She is a mother of five boys; Zackary, Gary, Jesse, Tristan, and Aidan. Her second youngest son, Tristan, was diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy when he was born. He wasn’t expected to live past the age of five. But with great care from his mom Dede, Tristan is still alive and well. I came to know Dede through her son Jesse when I was in 6th grade. She became a close friend to my family and me. Dede is what I consider a ‘super mom’. There isn’t much that Dede doesn’t and can’t do. She is selfless, dependable, and a devoted mother. Being selfless means that one is more concerned with the needs and wishes of others than with one’s own. The word selfless couldn’t describe Dede any better. Dede has raised all five boys on her own. No father figure has ever been around to lend a hand, but that never got to Dede. She took on both family roles in the boys lives. Dede always prioritizes the boys wants and needs above all else. She never rewards herself, or gets anything for her own. Everything she works for goes straight to them. Not even once has Dede complained about the way things are. She truly enjoys pleasing the boys. I will never forget the day that my family got her a spa package, and returned it because she wanted to spend the money on buying her son new football cleats. In addition, there are numerous nights that I have seen Dede give up her night’s sleep just to stay up to check on Tristan since he is fully dependent on her. Being dependable means to be trustworthy and reliable. This is yet again another great characteristic that describes Dede perfectly. I have never known her to miss a football, basketball, or even a baseball
