Desiree Collier English 1020 Professor St. John 09/30/14 The Legacy of Robin Williams Robin Williams passed away August 11, 2014 at 63 years of age. It was a very sad day for millions of Americans. We lost one of Hollywood’s most eclectic stars. He was an excessive person and, he knew how to make people laugh and also make some people cry. A couple of his greatest films were “Good Will Hunting” and “Dead Poets Society”. Robin Williams developed his amazing style as a stand-up comedian in San Francisco and Los Angeles. That’s when he landed his own TV show called “Mork and Mindy”. From there, Robin moved into the leading role of “Popeye”. His Publicist said, “He passed away this morning and was battling severs depression of late.” (Bio.) The family asked for their privacy so they could grieve over the loss of Williams. The Marin County Sheriff’s office on August 12, 2014 said, “The preliminary results of the forensic examination revealed supporting physical signs that Mr. Williams life ended from asphyxia due to hanging.” (Bio.) There was also a pocket knife found at the crime scene, and Williams used it to cut his left wrist. Although Williams has passed on, he touches millions of lives by his movies and comedy shows. Robin Williams was loved by millions of people, but no one knew what was really going on such as drug problems, depression, and alcohol problems. His legacy particularly may comfort those fighting personal battles. Knowing that movie stars are having the same problems as some regular people, it may show that all people can have the same thing happening to them. Symptoms of depression can vary depending on the type of person they may be. Here are some common types of depression; feelings of hopelessness and a pessimistic outlook on life, guilty feelings or feeling worthless, and irritability or thoughts of suicide. People, who have an illness, have trouble admitting they have a problem and require help. Clinical depression is one of the most common types of depression. Chronic illness can also lead to depression. People with depression often do not socialize with other people or just walk by themselves and reject their friends, spouse, or family. Depression can cause heart attacks and also Parkinson’s disease (which is what Robin Williams had). Depression can cause headaches, neck pain, and abdominal pain. Depression can interfere with sexual performance. This can cause personal relationships to fall apart. Insomnia is caused by depression, which is having trouble sleeping or staying asleep for long periods of time. Depression can affect various ages and maybe be more severe to children then adults. Robin Williams had a lot going on in his life, and it seemed like things could never go right for Williams.
