But soon enough, he became a determined and knowledgeable politician, who was not devoid of substance. As a president, JFK showed both style and substance through his actions and words. Before JFK’s time as president, he was a congressman and a senator. He won his seat in the House of Representatives by rigging the vote and cheating (‘John F. Kennedy,’ 2011). He used his families charm and connections to win over the public and his fathers enormous wealth to advertise himself.
With that in mind, America also had missiles in Turkey targeting the Soviet Union. In The fog of war it says “We (America) lucked out from not having a nuclear war”. In the interview it says “we went eyeball to eyeball and they blinked”, referring to the friction between the United States and the Soviet Union. JFK strongly tried to keep America out of war with the Soviet Union. Kennedy asked how many American causality’s there would be if one of the Soviet Union’s missiles would go off in the United States.
In 2008, President Obama made a list of promises to the nation and after a four year term, he was able to proudly declare that he had kept his word. He promised to decrease the unemployment rate, which he did by creating manufacturing jobs, and created a plan to reduce the economic deficit. As a man of his word that the American people can trust, President Obama also spearheaded the mission to bring Osama Bin Laden to justice. He showed composure in the face of danger by overseeing the operation’s success. Further, the president dealt with the crisis in Libya by acting on his feet, and prioritizing ways to which the matter could be effectively resolved.
Khrushchev placed missiles in Cuba to see if Kennedy would back off or face up to aggression and the blockade was certainly an aggressive move. Directly blocking off Cuba, an ally of the USSR is clear evidence of high tensions and points towards the idea that the Cuban Missile crisis was the point of highest tension. This point is only further
Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb, is a black comedy film that satirizes the nuclear arms race between the USSR and the United States. As for Stanley Kubrick’s view of American foreign policy, I believe that this film it is a realist point of view. The reason being is that the satire highlights the Cold War attitudes felt at the time. There was a focus on the missile gap between the USSR and the US. But most notably, it is the “doomsday device” that is the primary focus of the film’s satire.
SDI – anti ballistic missiles. | In order for the USSR to keep pace with them they would face bankruptcy. American military supremacy – allow the USA to gain more meaningful concessions. | It would require vast sums of money and resources.Soviets could respond. | The Reagan Doctrine | The policy of spending assistance to anti-Communist insurgents and governments.
Paid advertising is when a presidential candidate pays to broadcast his message to the American people. Its affects are fairly obvious, they will almost always increase support for that candidate and decrease support for the opposition. Therefore, whoever has the most money will end up ahead. News reporting has varying effects on presidential elections. The positive side is that for the most part, new stations will broadcast the truth.
attack on Cuba the equivalent of a world war, and claims to be receiving lots of aid from the USSR. But once the USSR and Cuban governments began building missile bases in Cuba, it became an immediate threat to the United States. The bases being built for these IRBM missiles were capable of launching them to practically any area of the continental United States. We responded by transporting 100 US missiles to Turkey and Italy, which were in striking distance of Moscow. By mid October, a U-2 photoreconnaissance plane retrieved pictures of missile sites in Cuba, giving Kennedy hard evidence that they existed.
The rhetorical devices used in Brutus’s great speech offer tricks that we find in many great political speeches. For example, “believe me for mine honour, and have respect to mine honour”. Brutus repeatedly refers to himself, wanting to persuade the crowd that because he is an honorable man, what he did was right. He also praises Caesar, which makes it okay in the eyes of the audience. We see this now when a politician will amend his opponent, even though he has devastated him just previously, this is ethos.
All of the students and staff welcomed me and made me feel as if I had always been a part of the community. Throughout the past three years we have all formed close friendships and created many memories. Whether it was normal classes or various fieldwork expeditions, we all formed a bond through these experiences that is irreplaceable. As a class we have worked hard to prepare ourselves for high school. We all have accomplishments to be proud of, such as 2,000 hours of community service.
