Summary – Holes Holes, written by Louis Sachar, is a book about a poor boy who is sent to Camp Green Lake for punishment for a crime that he did not do. The camp turns out not to be a place in the middle of the desert where boys have to dig holes to help a mean warden find a treasure that she believes is buried there. The main character, Stanley Yelnats, is a poor and fat boy in middle school who finds a pair of sneakers that belong to a famous baseball player and is accused of stealing them. Stanley has the same name as his father who is an inventor trying to find a way to recycle tennis shoes, his grandfather and his great-grandfather. Stanley meets Zero while at the camp and they become friends. As it turns out, Zero and Stanley are more connected than they know. Zero turns out to be the great great-grandson of Madame Zeroni and Stanley helps him when they are stranded out in the desert by carrying him up the mountain and the curse is broken. They find Stanley’s families money and the boys are set free from the camp together. It also turns out the Zero was the one who stole the shoes in the first place. Both Stanley and Zero have a happy ending. Stanley’s dad finally invents something that is worth it, something to cure stinky feet. The
