High school students nationwide are expected to take the widely despised SAT. The SAT is supposed to show the value of a student’s knowledge, but they fail miserably. A solid GPA says a lot more than one test. Something should be done. The SAT has caused much stress through the years, and for a useless purpose.
Speaker: Margaret Talbot, a women living in the twenty first century, believes that students are stressed and feel a lot of pressure to become valedictorian. This implicit presumption about what the audience accepts is illustrated by, “In 2002, Audrey Lin, one of Missions San Jose;s many valedictorians, admitted that she had cheated to get to the top in high school, and gave back her valedictorian plaque.” This shows that Lin felt the pressure of staying on top that she cheated. The author would not have put this in her essay if she didn’t believe that’s what Lin was feeling in high
While I was in school, I was working two jobs that were both very time consuming. I worked both nights and weekends and it was more than one student could handle at a time or would want to handle. Working all the time in school left little time to work on school assignments and study time. After working long hours I spent my time sleeping instead of doing homework, and this led to my lack of experience in writing and reading. I would fall asleep in class because I was so tired.
Unfortunately, the FCAT does not evaluate student’s performance correctly due to students that fall under pressure. The pressure that student’s feel and encounter is also known as test anxiety. According to Channel 7 reporter Erica Rakow’s in the article “FCAT Stresses Students Out, she claims” The responsibility of passing both reading and math portion of the FCAT in 10 grade adds a stressful ambiance to students who really do not want to retake it as a junior (par.2). Rakow also points out “That responsibility includes promotions to the next grade, and future funding for their school. Some students get so worked up about the test they can’t even get through it (par.3).
We started out great, but ended up lap sided because ever since I started school, he got all jealous and accusing me of cheating when I am doing my school work. The reason for the accusation was not spending enough time like we used to. I explain this to him before we got married that I will be focusing on my degree, therefore our time spent together will be limited. He said he understood and it was fine, yet he made my life very stressful in the process. As a
This class moves too fast and has enough work without extra credit. * The pace of the class also makes it too difficult to have late work of make-up work, so there is none. Plus, since I drop you lowest essay scores and your lowest exercise scores I think it’s fair. If you miss one, that just becomes the one of the dropped ones. * Attendance * I have to call roll for the first couple of days for administrative purposes, but I will not take formal attendance.
Why make us hate school even more? Testing days are the worst. Somehow I feel more tired, even though i slept the same amount of hours the last few days, and my stomach just won't stay quiet. You have the urge to pee every hour. You try to make not a lot of noise somehow everyone still ends up staring as you walk out.
Walking off the bus nervous and excited about what was to come. Real sports, challenging classes and the different teachers i was going to have. All my classes were advanced placement and the people around me were not familiar faces since all incoming sixth graders came from different elementary's in the area. I felt alone for the very first time in my life. I tried to keep focus but my solitude was starting to become unbearable.
Sometimes, I used to cry after coming back home from school because I did not know what the homework meant. My teachers would try to explain it to me, but it never worked because they were explaining it in English. Although, I was the best math student in my class, I would stand in the border of passing and failing for the word problems would take me down. In addition to my problems in school, when I came to US with my family in 2008, they city was firing workers exceedingly. The biggest unemployment rate was probably
Jeremy Reed English 1101 Section 104 Jack Ehn October 29, 2014 Against School I can relate to John Taylor Gatto. "Against School" As I look at my kids as they do their homework it seems challenging at times, or I find them being bored with it and wanting to either do more work or not wanting to do any work at all. They seem to understand it’s just not challenging enough, or they may just be bored. Gatto says “I taught for thirty years in some of the worst schools in Manhattan, and in some of the best, and during that time I became an expert in boredom. Boredom was everywhere in my world, and if you asked the kids, as I often did, why they felt so bored, they always gave the same answers: They said the work was stupid,
