Stolpestad The short story 'Stolpestad' is written by William Lychack in 2008. It takes place in the small town, were we meet a man who works as a police officer who is named Stolpestad. He is the main character of the story. One day he gets call and goes to a house because where there are some problems with a sick dog and he ends up killing the dog, or so he thinks he has. Later that evening the dog owner, a father and his son, goes to talk to him and blaming the police man for not have killed the dog properly and that hat result in that the dog hat to lay there and suffered, until they had call the vet to come and finish the job. The police man feels guilty about the whole situation. The main character in the text is a police officer. Do to the way the text is written you don’t get a description of him on how he looks or anything, it is all written from his perspective and this is his own interpretation of what happen that Saturday. It is a first person narrator and the officer speaks to himself during the text, example the first sentence “Was toward the end of your shift...” He has lived in the little town all of his life, and in the exact same part of the town (Page 1, line 11-12). Eventhough he has grown up in the city and knows it inside and out, He doesn’t seem to be thrilled about his job, the city or his life for that matter, which you can see in the way he thinks during the text. He speaks of the city with very little enthusiasm: “The coffee shops, the liquor stores, fire and gas stations to pass – this is your life, Stolpestad.” (Page 1, line 3-4). We don’t hear a lot about the settings in the text, except this one sentence about the professions that are in the town. This place creates an atmosphere for the story but again it has also to do with how Stolpestead presents the surroundings to the readers. It is his vision we hear about it from,
