I also feel like I don’t like it when I am approached by other ethnicities and spoken Spanish to. That makes me feel like that’s all they think I can speak. So I will tell them that I don’t understand what they are saying. I just have never felt good about it and to me it feels like they are trying to be
I also don’t like my disorder because I end up getting mad over little things and than I get into trouble and trouble comes with fines and / or jail time and I’m to old to be acting up anymore and its also not fair to my mother because I don’t have a job right now so she would be the one having to pay for the out come of my mistake because I got angry over something small or even something stupid. That’s why when I do have my medication I do take them everyday on time I try my best
They are native-born, immigrants, pioneers, aliens, patriots and rebels. They are still battling to emerge from the obscure margins of official U.S history, still begging to be fully recognized and understood. (97) The stereotypes Anglo Americans say about Mexicans does not help their own understanding of who they are. Mexican immigrants bear some of the worst of the stereotypes in today’s society. They are often viewed as illegal, non-taxing paying leaches who suck dry the funds from local communities while they sell drugs, commit crimes and take jobs away from Americans.
Stanislav Prasolov 04/06/13 Diversity and It’s Discontents When moving to another country is always not easy because it takes a lot of time to get use to new society and culture. You get treated differently when people find out you’re an immigrant from different country, some people would bully you and some would not pay attention to you at all because they would look at you as an “the other”. Even if you were born in United States and your nationality is Spanish and you speak fluent English, the American people would still judge you as “the other” just like Arturo Madrid the author of Diversity and It’s Discontents. Madrid had a hard time to fit in, he was looked at the “other” which means not fitting in the group
I personally feel that as a American born citizen, all immigrants need to learn English. This is an English speaking country and yes Spanish is a great thing to know, it is not up to the American people to be able to communicate with people that weren’t even born here. If I was to move to Mexico and live there, it would be very hard for me to communicate with the citizens of that country. It would be crucial for me to learn the Spanish language because that is what the Mexican community expects. They would not learn English and use it as a primary language when Spanish has been theirs for years.
Being that this is a short paper, I will only talk about a few incidents in the courtroom scene as there far too many examples of racism to detail here. A statement is read that ties the Mexicans and their violence to alcohol and inborn characteristics of Aztecs. The defendants must stand up when being talked about as the prosecutor makes the point that the jury cannot tell them apart. Another example of racism was a newspaper being shown with a guilty headline before the verdict is even read. Finally, Henry’s brother is beat and stripped of his clothing which seems to be a metaphor for being stripped of his
I have two older sisters that are always doing crappy things to me and at most times I try to justify myself by doing something mean to them but then they get back at me and like I said in the previous paragraph we end up going in circles. I do not believe that people can actually even be justified in taking justice into their own hands. And mainly this is because it just comes right back. People are too busy taking revenge to realize that there is no way to justify yourself without it coming back at
Linguistically ignorant "We’ve got to stop having America be the world’s most linguistically ignorant country." Stereotyping, the prejudgment of others based on their race, color, sex, and religion, is also another of the many forms of racism. This is due to the fact that many people do not understand exactly what stereotyping is and how badly it affects others. Mexicans are faced with many discriminatory stereotypes in their life’s that have gone unnoticed. Because they are different, and because they are not understood, they are stereotyped.
In others words, Americans felt Irish Americans immigrants happened to be lazy drunks and didn’t belong here. Americans felt that Irish immigrants brought over diseases as well, for example, Kevin Kenney says, Irish immigrants endured high rates of cholera, yellow fever, tuberculosis and pneumonia (Kenney). These caused a big scare among Americans and perhaps cause some of the discrimination. Another form of discrimination also came in the work place, such as, when Irish immigrants need to find work. Richard Jensen says, “The Irish American community harbors a deeply held belief that it was the victim of systematic job discrimination in America, and that the discrimination was done publicly in highly humiliating fashion through signs that announced ‘Help Wanted: No Irish Need Apply.’” Unlike men women sometime had better opportunities; Richard Jensen writes, “newspaper ads for women sometimes did include NINA, but Irish women nevertheless dominated the market for domestics because they provided a reliable supply of an essential service” (Jensen 405).
According the Webster’s New World Dictionary prejudice is defined as an unreasonable bias or hatred or intolerance to other races or people. Prejudices are formed against a person or group of people without knowing that person or that group of people. Its is the act of judging before knowing. Asking some close friends, I found three prejudices that are commonly held between the three of them. These prejudices include women do not take stress well, Native Americans have a drinking problem, and illegal aliens from Mexico are stealing money from America.
