5) Leonce never asks Edna how her day is going, or how she is feeling about certain things, yet he expects her to be completely mesmerized with him and his conversations. If Edna doesn't act the way a lady should, it could ruin Leonce's business. The people of the community will look down on him if they know his wife is out of control like he thinks she is. She doesn't take care of the children, she has an artistic pastime that interferes with family duties, and she wants freedom. This could really ruin Mr. Pontellier's
An Inspector Calls In this essay I will examine each character in detail to establish if any of them are responsible for Eva Smith's death. I shall also consider Eva's part in her own downfall. Inspector Goole had a way of making people think and do what he wanted. Although he didn't seem to get any extra information out of the other characters he soon made them realise that Eva Smith had died a horribly painful death and they had all contributed in making her want to end her life. He got them to tell each other their sins and secrets.
She also, obeyed her mother’s request, to bounce whenever she was bullied. To bounce means to ignore and pretend it wasn’t even there. Evyn kept to herself a lot. She never told or showed people how miserable she felt about moving. When Evyn first saw Eleni, with her red lipstick, black pants, and high heels, she thought Eleni looked nothing like a college professor and a mother.
Lady Douglas' call for the retrieval of her daughter does not come out of a sense of responsibility for said daughter but is instead motivated by the possible social implications and consequences of her daughter's actions and how those actions would reflect on her and her family. "Let it never be said that a daughter of thine / Was married to a lord under night." The call to arms of the men in her family by Lady Douglas was not necessary in the middle of the night, as her daughter had already willingly left her home with Lord William in the name of love. Without the mothers call the men would have been none the wiser to Lady Margret's actions until morning and may have been more logical about their approach to the situation. As such Lady Douglas holds a portion of the responsibility for her son's deaths.
Pontellier’s property. Edna partly believes that if she can prove her independence from her husband that Robert will want to be with her. She no longer cared about the needs of her husband she was fully lost in her own dreams. “Without even waiting for an answer from her husband regarding his opinions of wishes in the matter, Edna hastened her preporations for quitting her home on Esplanade street and moving into the little house around the block”(Choplin 84). Moving out of her husband’s house made her feel free, she didn’t want to be surrounded by her husband’s belongings, she wanted to be completely self-efficient.
The hermit hut sub plot is a great way to define good and evil. The hermit was said to have killed his wife and son, many people read what he did and said he was a murderer. When Ellie, Fi etc. found the notes in the hermits hut they realised that the hermit was not actually a murderer but he was a hero. He killed his wife and son to save them from having a horrible death from beings severely burnt.
The book follows the story of a young girl named Tita who longs her entire life to marry her lover, Pedro, but can never have him because of her mother's upholding of the family tradition of the youngest daughter not marrying but taking care of her mother until the day she dies. Tita is only able to express herself when she cooks. I enjoyed this book because it taught me a lot about how one’s traditions can affect your life. This book goes against some beliefs that many people have because “Like Water for Chocolate” is a fiction book, it is believed fiction books cannot teach anything useful. But the lessons I learned are applicable to life and have also provided
Lucy’s idea of beauty is external, her mothers internal. This contrast leads to a lack of communication about Lucy’s changing physique and leaves Lucy on her own to form an opinion of what a woman is, what she should look like, and how she finds love. Lucy’s mother never discusses the disease with her, or what changes she will see in her body. Lucy is not comfortable asking her mother for help because she knows that her mother “never recognized that her anger scared all of us into retreat. One day, Curley's wife hopes to leave and be able to live her dream without anyone's approval.
