Explorer 1 had an orbital life cycle of about twelve years, and mission duration of four months. Upon re-entry to earth in 1970, it had completed an astounding 58,000 orbits around the Earth. At the same time as the Vanguard rockets (the satellites proceeding Explorer 1), President Eisenhower and the rest of his cabinet were trying to decide under which agency this new “space” issue fell under the jurisdiction of, to which they found no answer. President Eisenhower instated the National Aeronautics and Space Act which was the creation of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration or more commonly known as NASA. NASA would go on to become the most influential organisation in the world in relation to anything space related.

The Endeavor had 25 missions, all leaving Earth from Houston. Throughout all its missions Endeavor was pushing the limits and space exploration. Endeavor acquired its name from the first ship commanded by James Cook at 18th-century British explorer, who sailed into the South Pacific and around Tahiti to observe the passage of Venus
The Challenger was a space shuttle of great experience. Before its last journey it had witnessed the first steps of man and the first woman on the moon. It was named after the British Naval research vessel that sailed the Atlantic and Pacific Ocean during the 1870’s. The Challenger certainly made its scientific contribution to the sense of exploration because the Apollo 17 also carried the name Challenger (Space Shuttle Overview: Challenger n.p.). The next and last journey of the space shuttle was on January 28, 1986 when the US Space Challenger broke apart seventy-three seconds after lift off.
Called the BC-10, it was the most powerful computer yet installed aboard a submarine. Though only the size of a business desk, it cost over five million dollars and ran at eighty million operations per second. It used newly developed sixty-four-bit-chips and made use of the latest processing architecture. Its purpose, much like that of the far larger SOSCUS system, was to process and analyze sonar signals, the BC-10 stripped away ambient noise and other naturally produced sea sounds to classify and identify man-made noise. There have ALWAYS been gays in the military (all over the world). Some of the great military leaders have been gay (e.g. Alexander the Great). I spent 20 years serving our country and the gays I have been stationed with (male and female) have all been top performers. I never saw any go to Captain's Mast for doing stupid things, like many of the straights.
