Although the Board of Education is trying to help the blacks, Hispanics, and other minority communities by giving them these opportunities, like the EOF program to help them achieve their goals without the problem of the money; they are unintentionally offending them. Financial aid in the Board of Education should be supplied to those who need it instead of specific minority races because it is taking away financial opportunities from others in need, unconstitutionally segregating minorities from the rest of society and also from these programs the Board of Education has offended lower class races by implying that it is obvious that they can’t can’t make it to college on their own, and need help from . Lee wrote was a letter to his wife about slavery in 1856. In this letter Lee talks about how “The blacks are immeasurable better off here than in Africa, morally, socially and physically.” By saying this Lee shows his willingness to accept the African American society into the southern white society. Lee isn’t necessary an anti-slavery activist but he isn’t a pro-slavery supporter either. Robert E. Lee once stated that he saw slavery as necessary but not proper. Lee concluded that slavery would help both white and black races grow equally.
After differences of opinion within the government as to how to go about rebuilding and readmitting the South were agreed upon, it was decided that the Southern states would be coerced to ratify the 13th, 14th, and 15th amendments. The 13th amendment abolished slavery, the 14th amendment extended citizenship rights to freed slaves, and the 15th amendment gave freed male slaves the right to vote. Even though slavery had been defeated, racial prejudice thrived in post war America. Democrats unleashed anti-black sentiments to rally fellow whites to assimilate under their banner. Equality Opportunity’ in that the burdens of racism can only be overcome by taking race into account. Affirmative action also aims to reflect the racial diversity of the nation, the ‘Equality of Results’, within schools, the firm and the workplace. Despite being mainly supported by Democrats, and rejected by Republicans President Nixon played a significant role in affirmative action by instituting ‘set aside’ policies to reserve a certain percentage for minorities. The main advantage of affirmative action is that is leads to a greater diversity in societies main institutions, arguably this would not be achieved had things been left as they were. It is also argued on the basis of righting those previously wronged, by opening areas of education and employment that would not have previously been available to minorities.

Du Bois and Booker T. Washington have many conflicting views. For instance, they both believe that African Americans deserved egalitarianism, but Washington felt that the way to accomplish this goal would be through education. He felt that the establishment of Tuskegee Institute would allow African Americans to utilize education to infiltrate the work force and attain economic equality. Washington’s ideology advises Negroes to compromise by surrendering their civil rights, political rights and higher education for the Negro youth in exchange for a larger chance of economic development (p. 30). As a result, Du Bois says that Washington’s philosophy helped with the prematurely accomplished the disfranchisement of the Negro, the legal creation of a distinct status of civil inferiority for the Negro, and the steady withdrawal of aid from institutions for the higher training of Negro (p. 30).
If African Americans reject low paying jobs that other immigrants are competing for, they justify the belief that they are less deserving than immigrants. Resentment for this treatment further validates the white belief that African Americans are unworthy, restarting the cycle over again. According to Bowles, 2012, slavery began the civil war which led to further violence which in turn led to segregation. But just because this was the end of slavery, does not mean that the military leaders nor politicians can change the ingrained cultural beliefs of a people. The country was split between the North and the South; Northern white and in the Southern Blacks. African-Americans such as Malcolm X, Rosa Parks, and even more recent Barrack Obama have made significant steps to improve and even stop segregation. According to Bowles, 2011, American History 1865 to present End of Isolation, The Black Codes codified some of these feelings into law when in 1865 southern state governments created legislation that restricted and controlled the lives of the ex-slaves.
