Jalen Cannon Intro to Human Biology Dr. James E. Corrigan February 17, 2014 Almost two years ago, on November 8th, 2012 I injured my right foot during a routine pregame practice at St. Francis. One of my teammates mistakenly landed on the topside of my foot while battling in a drill. With the immediate amount of discomfort in my right foot, I went downstairs to see Andrew, the Athletic Trainer at St. Francis, so he could take a look at it. Considering the fact that St. Francis is a much smaller school compared to other high profile universities across the country, our facility and sports medicine equipment is limited. He was only able to look at my foot and base the information off of my statements about the pain since there is no x-ray or MRI machine on sight. I needed all the rest I could get and ice everything as often as I would rest. During my recovery time I was instructed to take ibuprofen pills every 4 to 6 hours if I was having pain in any area of my injuries. Also I was instructed to tale a multi-vitamin daily for the rest of my career to make sure I get the right amount of nutrients and calcium I need to help keep my bones healthy. I also take fish oil pills. Fish oil is filled with Omega-3 fatty acids which are considered essential fatty acids, the human body can’t produce them so we have to either eat the foods with them in it or fish oil pills work perfectly too. “Research shows that omega-3 fatty acids reduce inflammation and may help lower risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease, cancer, and arthritis.” (Ehrlich,
