Einhard was not a historian writing an unbiased account of Kings Charles life and rule, but rather a friend determined to share the glory and greatness of his king. He wanted King Charles life to be written in numerous scribed, talked about in the market place and recited by young boys and young men as similar to the epic stories of former Roman emperors. Consequently, Rome’s great Emperors served and the template to which Einhard would model his beliefs and expectations of a great king. Einhard believed that a great king would reflect the distinctive characteristics of Rome’s past emperors. More specifically, Einhard focused on characteristics such has military prowess, sacred authority and great leadership.
Many people like to believe the cause of World War I was the assassination of Franz Ferdinand. Although that did trigger the war, it did not start the up rising problems. War doesn’t just happen over night; there were problems long before Franz Ferdinand died. Problems such as militarism, alliances, nationalism, imperialism, and then the assassination of Franz Ferdinand. Militarism led to problems because every country had confidence that its new technological weaponry and troop count could defeat any other country, which led to a severe lack of negotiations.
He has been a great leader throughout the Fellowship, before they reached Rivendell and after Gandalf was taken away. After being a great leader and also secretive and trustworthy, Aragorn proves to be the best to bear the ring to Mount Doom. These are only a few traits describing why he would be the best one but these traits can lead him to where he needs to
The reader learns how Beowulf is fighting only for glory and not for power because “Beowulf longed only for fame” (71, 1528-1529). Beowulf was much stronger than Throthgar and could’ve easily taken his thrown but he did not long for power he longed for fame. Another example of how Beowulf fights for what is right is when Beowulf fights Grendel’s Mom. Beowulf had already killed Grendel, had received his riches, he could’ve easily left the Dane’s helpless against this angry mom. Instead, Beowulf does the right thing and because he does fate repays him by allowing “her stabbing blade to be blunted by the woven mail skirt” (71, 1547-1549).
Jesus Jauregui Jr Mr. Joham AP Literature/Period 3 8 February 2012 Invisible Man “Better late than never” is a famous quote which means it is better to do or know something late rather than to never do or hear something. This quote could perfectly be applied to Ralph Ellison’s Invisible Man. In it, the nameless narrator is constantly learning vital information after he acts. For example, the narrator got in trouble for taking Mr. Norton to go see Trueblood and to the Golden Day. He did not realize that Dr. Bledsoe would get mad at him because he was only doing what Mr. Norton told him to do.
If they had thought any less of Beowulf as a leader, they would have left and returned to wait in Herot. Also, Beowulf presents his virtue as leader when he will ride out to face the dragon even though he is far into old age. To drive the point home, the Geats that Beowulf ruled as king gave Beowulf the most spectacular funeral that they have ever given someone. They built him a tower and put all their good into that tower. One sees this in the book when it reads, “Then the Geats built the tower…the treasures they’d taken were left there too.” (63) If Beowulf had been an ordinary and un-epic man, the Geats would have buried him in a common manner and used the treasure for themselves.
Characteristics of a perfect knight * The Duty, honor, loyalty and the willingness to shed blood and have their own shed filled the life of a medieval knight. * It was no easy task and many a man was cut down before his prime in the pursuit to become a knight in medieval times. * It was terribly expensive to be a knight. * Becoming a knight was part of the feudal agreement. * In the late middle ages, many prospective knights began to pay "shield money" to their lord so that they wouldn't have to serve in the king’s
Of course, those already in power bitterly resent this; that is why there is such a strong anti-democratic streak in wealthy conservatives and business owners. They complain that democracy allows the poor to legally steal from the rich. (Liberals counter that unregulated capitalism allows the rich to exploit and therefore steal from the poor, and taxes simply correct for that.) But democracy also works in the other direction as well. If we lived in a society where everyone was paid equally, despite their different inputs, people would surely vote to create a system of incentives and rewards.
I know I couldn’t but I guess that’s where bravery kicks in for this well-known hero name Beowulf. Beowulf is very wise and i stick with my statement because he thinks before he talk or do anything. Like with Grendel, the whole entire land of the kings’ men was trying their hardest to kill him. But Beowulf stayed up all and analyzed Grendel as he killed one the men. He prepared for every fight thoroughly.
Once again the watcher on the shore of Herot says to Beowulf's men ''From their ships, seeking of lives and our gold/ None have come more openly (157-158)''. Gold is valued by all the men in this story and this shows later on also when Beowulf fights the dragon. Beowulf fights the dragon to show his bravery but I also believe he wanted to slay the dragon for the treasure and gold that would come as a reward. After killing the dragon Beowulf is injured so bad but still shows his affection for the treasure by requesting it be buried by him. ''And the riches he and Wiglac/ Had won from the dragon, rings, necklaces/ancient, hammered-all/ The treasures they'd taken were left there, to/ silver and jewels buried in the sandy/ground (849-854)''.
