Henri Oung Date due: April 28th, 2009 Knowledge and Conspiracy Theories Date submitted: April 28th, 2009 Term paper: Moon-landing Word count: 1110 We always strive to achieve something. That achievement might be a dream or something even bigger. One of the dreams that Americans have is to actually get off the planet earth and see the outer universe. But one of the first things they wanted to accomplish is to actually land on the moon. It was first succeeded by the soviets in 1966, but the Americans did try to land a few years before that, but failed.
Ast 103 Amber Titus Shrinking Moon Lab The moon along with the rest of Earth’s atmosphere has such a major impact of human’s lives. Space has provided natural entertainment of shooting stars, planets, comets, stars, and meteorites. The one space object that has stuck out to me and I am sure others is, the moon. The moon places a huge role in everyday life because we see it rise, set change phases, change colors, etc. With all this change people are constantly questioning certain things about the moon and its origins.
Survival. Achieving this can bring out the worst in people. When the world turns around like it did for Miranda, life would never be the same. An unpredicted disaster has taken a toll on the world. A meteor struck the moon and moved it closer into orbit changing centrifugal forces and causing worldwide tidal waves, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and that’s just the start.
When looking at how planets were classified at the time of Pluto’s discovery technology was much different. The criterion then and now, for the most part, relies on classifying an object as a planet as long as: it orbits around the sun, is massive enough to create its own gravitational shape and force, and must have cleared the neighboring area around its orbit. However, going by these guide lines Pluto does not meet the requirements. For this and other reasons I feel that Pluto should no longer be classified as a planet. There are many issues to consider either way you classify Pluto.
The biggest threat that NASA has identified is an asteroid named Apophis. However, it is not coming on ‘end of the world December 21, 2012 doomsday’ and is currently on a Level 0 on the Torino Scale. Because our ozone layer is thinning, there is a big possibility that if an asteroid hit our planet it would cause turmoil and destruction. One of the significant times this occurred was when the dinosaurs were wiped out. The surface of the moon is an example of such impacts, and the craters that people see today on the moon, people are starting to see on the
Then, the day after the nuclear explosion, the contaminated dust and water rain down and contaminate a large area. This rain is known as the fallout. The head wave comes from the gigantic energy that develops from the detonation. In the center of the detonation, the temperature can reach several million degrees. The head wave only takes a few seconds, but it kills everyone within a three-mile radius.
The purpose of the first text, Man Takes First Steps on the Moon, is to inform the audience about the importance of Neil Armstrong and Edwin Aldrin landing on the moon and discovering greater things than what you can ind on earth. The interaction among the speaker and the audience affects the text because it is told from the point of view from someone who
This planet is two-thirds of our moon and it is the largest rock in the Kuiper belt. After the discovery of Pluto, Scientist thought that it was too small to rotate around the sun. Pluto has not been visited by a spacecraft yet. It is so far that only the Hubble space telescope can see it; but it can only see its largest features. A spacecraft, named Horizon, launched in 2006, and it will hopefully reach Pluto in 2015.
Meteorites are heavy. Most meteorites are much denser than ordinary Earth rocks. The unusual weight is due to high iron content. Even stone meteorites will feel heavier in the hand than most Earth rocks. Meteorites likely traveled in space for millions of years before visiting us here on Earth.
When we landed on the moon it created a rehabilitated sense of patriotism in Americans, and that is what Krauthammer is striving for. That feeling of “wonder” and “glory” that we Americans have left behind in the last few decades. He is pushing us to realize we should not be content with mediocrity and we should strive as a country to learn everything we can about any subject possible, and open grand new possibilities for ourselves. Some of these possibilities may be a space station on the moon. It may be impractical , but most everyone loves seeing new exotic views, and nothing can be more bizarre than taking an outside look at your home planet.
