The quote “Sometimes nothing happens for hours on end; then - all of a sudden- “over she comes!” - rifle grenades - Minnies - and those horrid little things like pineapples - you know.” This quote shows that Hardy is Flippant and he doesn’t show treat things with respect, it shows he is trivialising the war and as well it tells the audience that the soldiers receive bad training as you would expect them to use the correct terminology. The quote “ By the , you know the big German attack’s expected any day now?” In this quote Hardy is informing Osborne and he is also gloating as he won’t be there because he is being relieved. The quotes “are you here for six days” and “then I should think you’ll get it - right in the neck” The quotes show
Living in a trench is something I will never forget. The barbed wire that surrounds the trench, the dead bodies lying everywhere, the rats, flies, lice, the dreadful smell that never seems to go away, the small rations of food that is provided and the scared looks on our fellow soldiers when a gunshot is fired. I will end now and pray that this is not the last letter I will ever send to you. I love you both with all my heart, Your son,
08 Fall 08 Fall A Day At A Concentration Camp Anthony Vaccariello Devry A Day At A Concentration Camp Anthony Vaccariello Devry A Day at a Concentration Camp The prisoners have managed to live through the night. Is it a curse or a blessing that they have manage to survive another day in a concentration camp. (Martyrs' and Heroes' Remembrance Authority., The Holocaust 2011) Prisoners are awoken in a constant hurry, the first thing they need to do is look for their shoes hoping that they were not stolen during the night, because you will be severely beaten or even killed if you cannot work. Their day starts off with constant fear of their own or others lives. Breakfast mostly consists of a barren piece of bread and watered down tasteless coffee that comes with an opportunity for the Kapo to harass you, beat you or even kill you if you drop food or try to take extra.
Who can care for us, we who are set loose at each and tear at each other’s entrails with silent gleaming bayonets? | 99 | I do not think things now; I feel them. | 104 | I guess it is because we do not want to die – because we hang on so pitifully to life as it slips away. Our lives are stolen – taken from us unawares. | 108 | A song to forget the horror of the trenches!
Boom! “ Men gather your weapons were under attack “ still half asleep I scurry across the room to get my boots on , still unstable I hit my toe against a nail but the excruciating pain had to be ignored as I only had 3-7 seconds to get out but on the plus side it got me wide awake. Prepped and ready I dash outside to fight for my country and my pride but it was quickly swallowed as I was intoxicated by the smell of the air, it had completely stifled my nose as it had a mixture of decaying flesh from comrades and other organisms; the smell of the latrines used for human waste well that’s all my nose could pick up and to make matters worse the rain for last night had saturated the soil and so the water in the trenches was at waist height making
It was one of the most heart breaking decisions I ever had to make but I could see the pain that old dog was going through and I couldn’t stand to see him hurting anymore. Carlson promised me he would try his best not make it painful for Scruffy but I was too upset to say anything. He led him out of the bunkhouse and I just had to lie down. It tore me apart having to see him leave and know that was the last time I would ever see him. The guys tried to distract me from the situation but it was all I could think about.
The next technique that I will be showing is repetition. Repetition is when something is repeated to give a much stronger affect, throughout this poem Wilfred Owen repeats that he hates the war due to the weather and the lies they were fed about war. I am going to talk about is “but nothing happens” in this poem this quote comes in four times in stanzas one, three, four and eight. The hatred in this quote is that they are waiting for the government to come and collect them, they are waiting for the bad weather to end but most of all
You better believe it. I prayed hard every night that God would bring me through this hell hole and bring me home safely. I prayed for the casualties from our gunfire and artillery. It is not pleasant to know you sometimes have to take the life of another human being in order
By heaven, I’ll have ’t./O God, Horatio, what a wounded name,/Things standing thus unknown, shall live behind me!/If thou didst ever hold me in thy heart/Absent thee from felicity a while,/And in this harsh world draw thy breath in pain/To tell my story” (Ham 5.2.308-315). Horatio tries to kill himself with the poisoned drink just like Gertrude did on accident but Hamlet orders him to stay alive specifically to tell the true story of what had happened those past nine months in Denmark. This shows exactly how well of a listener Horatio
That we’d be lonely forever. That we’d never meet someone to make us feel like the sun was something they built for us in their tool shed. So broken heart strings bled the blues as we tried to empty ourselves so we would feel nothing. Don’t tell me that hurts less than a broken bone.” “To This Day” by Shane Koyczan. When you think of bullying you think of pushing and shoving, teasing, laughing, and name calling.
