The hero in my life would have to be my “granny” Beverly Ann Pinckney Jefferson. She is a caring, motivated, optimistic, and loyal individual that I know I can always count on. My granny is a woman that cares for everyone. She would care for a complete stranger if she feels he or she needs assistance. She is also known to be faithful and helpful
She states that she doesn’t necessarily like working but she likes the fact that she works and can support herself and her children if needed. Weaknesses: T. Smith’s states that her insecure about her appearance, and that she is too kindhearted to people that do not deserve it. Connection: I picked T. Smith for several reasons. First, I have known her for four years and has become quite close to her. Second, she is, on the outside, everything I wanted to be.
Mama finally stands up to Dee and realizes the beauty in Maggie. Mama is a simple woman. She has worked hard her entire life and has done the best to support her family. Although Mama may not agree with Dee, it seems as if she is caught up in Dee’s opinions and behavior. Almost as if she wants to be enough for Dee because she knows she never has been.
She is a very resilient woman who is smart, beautiful and loving. The other person I live with is my step-father, and he is the only father figure I have ever had. My step-dad is laid-back, understanding and has very good values. Another very important person to me is my sister, Destiney. Although she doesn’t live with me she is a huge part of who I am and also a huge inspiration to me.
My mother was always a single mother, so just like space, as I was growing up, money was tight. But my mother never let that hold back my siblings and me from getting our education and other goals she set for us. She knew we could do things that we believed we couldn’t possibly do, so she always encouraged us to be our best, no matter whatever or whoever tried to bring us down. The people that are in my life today have had a huge impact on the person who I’ve grown to be. My family, but especially my mother has molded me with their standards and expectations of me, and for them I am thankful.
I enjoyed reading Nancy Mairs’s “On Being a Cripple” because she really emphasized the struggle she must endure each and every day with her disease and how she copes with the fact that her life will never be the same as it once was. After reading this essay, I have learned that having a crippling illness is no excuse to give up on what you love to do. Nancy Mairs proved herself by continuing to teach and be the best mother and wife she could be, even after she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. She would not let her condition keep her away from what she loved most in her life. Nancy Mairs is truly an inspiration to those suffering with MS and other crippling disabilities because she shows us that being disabled isn't the end of the world.
There aren’t many people who are as strong as her to push their selves to overcome their struggles. Not only did she learn a lesson, but so did all her loved ones. They became more united as a family. Anything is possible when you give it your all and don’t give your hopes up. Also, the positive things she’s done going out her way after her recovery, talking to others about her experience and how she was able to get on her feet is an awesome thing she did.
She shows her children a lot of love and attention and she works hard to be a good mother. Loving, hardworking, and a great parent best describe her. LaRhonda Anderson is a loving person. She never treats me wrong and she has a good heart. Also LaRhonda always helps her friends or siblings that are in need of help.
Even though she had made bad choices, and had been through tough situations. Mandy always seemed to have a positive attitude. She seemed to pend on a lot of situations that I feel make her a good mother. She always had her baby’s best interest in mind; which brought her to the place she really needed. In the end her and her baby got the help they were looking for, and were adopted into the family.
There are many reasons why the poet might have decided the mother to be the voice of the poem. One of the reasons is, mothers are known to be very passionate and caring, and they are the only people that can really get to their children and empower them due to the powerful bond between them. Also, every human trusts their mother more than anyone in the whole world, because of all the risks and sacrifices all mothers had undertook for their sons during their parenthood, therefore making their relationship unforgettably inseparable. This reminds the readers of their own mothers and how they owe them a huge favor for raising them; it makes them realize that the only way to pay them back is to be a success. The poet uses the very popular southern dialect in order to make the reader sense the warmth and approachability of a mother that everyone can relate to and therefore bringing the mother`s character to life.
