Firstly, many students and adults do not know enough about managing their finances which is why they tend to get in to debt. If financial literacy is taught in high then they will not have problem managing their finances because they will have that knowledge. According to the studies almost eighty percent of the people in dept are in dept because they do not make a financial plan as they were never taught to. These people lack the financial literacy skills. This is why teaching financial literacy in high school will benefit the students later in their life.
You can’t be hired without experience, but you can’t get experience if you don’t get hired. We wouldn’t need daycare because all the kids are in school. If I could get a job, then we would be able to pay more on the mortgage, pay off other bills, and put money away. “Working at McDonald’s” Etzioni’s essay states that teens who hold a part-time paying job in fast food places, such as McDonald’s, are getting nothing educational from the job itself. After reading his piece, I have to say I highly concur with the point he is making. Having a “highly routinized” job has a lot of drawbacks, especially for teens who are slowly being weaned into the real world. Such jobs are somewhat of a tradition amongst high school students. However, they tend to interfere with school, are highly routinized, have no room for personal growth, creativity, initiative, and no entrepreneurship opportunities.
In that since why teach the computer programs and such when all of those things are constantly changing so they are going to have to re learn everything they were taught every year. Dr. Stoll says all they really need to know is how to use “a word processor, manipulate a spread sheet, know what a database does, be able to use e-mail, and know how to use the internet.” Lastly Dr. Stoll says that computers are hindering our students basically because they allow the students to take the easy way out. They really do not have to use their brain muscles at all and I quote, “Instead of asking whether or not technology can support the curriculum into a mold so that computers and calculators can be used.” In conclusion the idea and theory the Clifford Stoll has seems to be very true and you really cannot deny that because all of the signs are true and every supporting statement that he uses is true because I have either seen it happen or it has happened to me….but hate to say it, I still like to learn from

The “selling” section of Enrenreich’s book was really the turning point of the book for me. The first two sections focused on jobs that I really could not relate to, as they were random businesses in areas of the United States I have never visited. When Barbara decided to take a job at Wal-‐Mart, America’s largest private employer, I was finally able to relate to her struggles because I am very familiar with the company. After reading about the struggles both Ehrenreich and her close co-‐workers faced, I am very supportive of her decision to leave Wal-‐Mart in hopes of securing a higher income job elsewhere. The company seems to really know and understand the situation their employees are in and they definitely use that to the advantage
I don’t understand why the information in some classes is more educational than others, when we should all be learning the same stuff. Many people argue that money shouldn’t matter, but money does determine what kind of teachers and supplies there are within a school. A prime example that can be a problem is there may be a class where the teacher knows how to teach the information that the students need to know, but there are no books for the students. Many school districts are participating in this case in order to help change how the distribution of wealth happens within the state. Every district should receive a certain amount of money and supplies in order for every school to give every student in the state of Texas an equal opportunity towards a successful future.
Charter schools care about scores and student learning. They do this by not putting students on tracks and holding them to the same standard (Guggenheim). Because of my luck in public schools, I never saw the effect that a “lemon” teacher had on student learning, but I see that the “dance of the lemons” that Guggenheim talks about is a serious problem that can be fixed with enough attention. The problem with charter schools is that, because of the limited space, there has to be a public lottery for students to be enrolled. Kids who realize that education is a way out of their rough financial situation have no other option besides charter schools at times.
Not just by some test the state has to give out, or by grades that don’t show a student’s real intelligence. Since attending school is only taken through a third of a person’s life, learning should not always be taught inside a cold classroom. Classes should be taught outside of the school on some days, where the student’s can learn firsthand because then they’ll know as they grow older how to survive in the real world. Not many people stop to question if the information they are reading or being taught is factual. While the events Loewen points out may have some discrepancies in US History lower-learning textbooks; this does not mean all textbooks are incorrect. If anyone were to research any single US historical event he would end up finding out information he may have not been privy to through textbooks. Keep in mind, to incorporate every detail into one United States (US) History textbook is an unfathomable task. Students wouldn’t be able to carry the textbook and it would take years for teachers to deliver them information to him.
