Acknowledgement I would like to this opportunity to thank all those who aided me in the completion of this Internal Assessment. Firstly I would like to thank God for his guidance and strength has without him this I.A. could not have been done. Secondly I would like Eugene Singh for providing me with historical information about the St. Joseph Methodist Church. I would also like to thank Reverend Mona Christmas-Fraser for allowing me to use the St. Joseph Methodist Church as a bar to determine whether or not the church’s outreach programs are able to reduce crime and violence in the town of Old Harbour. Introduction To what extent are the St. Joseph Methodist Church outreach programs able to reduce crime and violence in the town of Old Harbour? In recent times due to the migration of criminals from Spanish Town and May Pen into the town of Old Harbour, there has been an increase in crime and violence. The St. Joseph Methodist Church has taken drastic measures to tackle this problem by targeting illiteracy, poverty, and by making available Christianity to the community members. The research question that which is at the centre of this study is - “How significant is the St. Joseph Methodist Church outreach programs in reducing crime and violence in the town of Old Harbour?” Along with question are three other related sub-questions. 1. How influential are these outreach programs on the citizens of Old Harbour? 2. Has the town of Old Harbour improved socially, since the introduction of the outreach programs? 3. Other than the reduction of crime and violence what other benefits could the town of Old Harbour receive from the outreach programs?
