Sociological Perspective Paper Individual Assignment University of Phoenix Introduction to Sociology SOC 100 Sandra Hightower Prepared by . January 13, 2007 A Feminist View Point The situational comedy chosen for this review is ‘Everybody Love Raymond.’ The producer’s of Emmy award winning ‘Everybody Loves Raymond’ tackled a most sensitive feminist subject, the menstruation cycle. During their 95th episode dubbed Bad Moon Rising which originally aired on May 08, 2000, the Everybody Loves Raymond cast treated the audience and viewer’s at home to the highly energetic and somewhat frightening emotional sides of a women experiencing, Ladies’ Days. The feminist perspective will be used to explain the television show’s effects of PMS in a woman’s life. A feminist view is a sociological approach that views inequity in gender as central to all behavior and organization (Schaefer, R. 2005). The episode began when Ray is having some friends over watching television and making a mess in the living room. Then his wife, Debra, comes walking through the living room and suddenly blurts out rude comments in front of his friends. After she leaves the room, Ray’s friends all have helpful advice on how to handle Debra’s ‘problem’. Still somewhat confused, Ray seeks guidance from his father, Frank. Frank offers his solicited advice when he is told that Ray is considering giving in to Debra by simply accepting her abrupt outbursts. His advice begins with morally stand up for yourself as a man and “Before you know it, what used to be a bad mood becomes her only mood. And then you become like me, where not a day goes by that I don’t wish a comet was screamin’ towards earth to bring me sweet relief.” Ray eventually goes to the pharmacy store and brings home seemingly every type of PMS symptoms relief, only to walk into a fiery
