Understanding Social Psychology Ashley Cusson PSY301: Social Psychology Professor: Lalain Williams December 6, 2012 When I started my social phycology class at Ashford University I had no idea what to expect. When you start this class the best advice I can give you is to keep an open mind. A lot of the things you will learn will seem like you already knew them but when you think about it, it’s that you knew about their definition but not what they were called. The class will give you a better understanding of the world around you and the groups that are in it. The internal attributions are making decisions based on the personality the individual has or the way they are acting. With external attributions are ones that are based on outside forces or the situation. Our test given an example of the external attributions of deciding how you feel about someone based on a onetime of them being late and not thinking about the reasons they may have been late (Feenstra 2011). Explanatory style is the pattern that we follow to make our decisions on people or groups. With the field there would be less understanding about way people act the way they do after a natural disaster or an attack on our country. After the attacks on our country on September 11, 2001 people were afraid and scared it would happen again. I think that while our country is always changing as are the people in it that there will be a bigger need for social phycology and that the way the field looks at situations will also change over time to fit the feel our the country or the world situations. Now that in our country there is less areas that people stick to living in the same area as others that share the same culture there is a need to see how the cultures blend and how they work well together or not work together. Now that we have gone over what the social phycology field entails and what you will learn from this class you are most likely sitting there thinking about situations that you have already seen in real life that are similar to those that I have explained. As with any other type of phycology you will need to keep an open mind and you will be surprised what you already know about the field.
