By applying the strengths perspective, which uses human strength and resiliency as a guide for helping individuals overcome personal obstacles and challenges, conservatives would rationalize that older adults should plan for their retirement many years earlier, preparing a way to provide their own medical care. Health care should be an individual responsibility. In addition, some Conservatives surmise Medicare in its present form is a government entitlement and like all big government programs, it’s inefficient and disempowers individuals. The fiscally responsible thing to do, in their opinion, is go back to the privatization of Medicare in order to avoid large government
Chronic diseases wellness progams are necessary for the elderly and will become needed more as the aging population grows. It is believed that disease management programs for the elderly reduce heathcare expenditures, but it still remains inconlusive (Simone R. de Bruin, 2011). Until the healthcare industry can provide a way to cut costs in healthcare the ability to lower costs for the elderly will continue to rise and affect healthcare nation wide. The individual patient, the community, and society as a whole can address these challenges by doing his/herr research. One way to help bring about the necessary changes in our healthcare is talk to people in charge of helping bring about change in the healthcare world such as one’e own congressmen or congressworman.
Therefore when researching and discussing this topic on positive ageing it is important to discuss it from all factors, not just physical illness. Ageism is the practice of prejudice and discrimination against older adults. Ageism influences the presence of diversity because older individuals in career fields can lose their jobs or be replaced with people that are younger, cheaper, and may have updated knowledge older individuals don’t possess. For example, we are in a technology driven world older career individuals would have to learn and adapt to the changing technology. The loss of a job would also mean the loss of many benefits such as health insurance. The aim of this paper is to argue that spirituality and religiosity have an integrative and fundamental role in promoting physical, psychological, emotional and social well-being. First, the paper will begin by taking a multifaceted look at intrinsic and extrinsic religiosity and spirituality as well as their increasing significance among the aging cohort. Secondly, benefits associated with spirituality will be discussed, including physical benefits, psychological/ emotional benefits, specifically focusing on increase in coping abilities, decrease in depression rates and decrease in death anxiety, as well as social benefits. Following that, are arguments as to why these benefits should be considered, by incorporating the spiritual dimension in health care models. The number of studies connecting spirituality and health care has notably increased in the more recent years (Chiu, Emblem, Hofwegen, Meyerhoff & Sawatzky, 2004), along with an increase in research linking religiosity and spirituality to health, well-being and quality of life among the elderly (Lee, & Yoon, 2006).
