The bombs are making the earth perverse by taking away its life and leaving behind death. The new recruits fall to the ground and try to protect themselves from the bombs. In the quote earth is symbolizing its motherhood. A mother would protect its kids from anything harmful even of it must be hurt or even killed in the process. That is earth did in this part to protect the soldiers.

The car misses the student but slides and crashes into the pole for the traffic signal. Terry and Shaun are hurt but survive as both were restrained by their seat belts in the front bucket seats. The Highwaymen were the scandalous criminals that patrolled the highways and traffic roads to scavenge for useful goods. “With the use of the Hydrogen Bomb, the Christian era was dead, and with it must die the tradition of the good Samaritan” (page 84). After the many atomic bombs destroyed Orlando and other major cities, the survivors went against each other and become either hostile criminals or bystanders trying yo avoid to confliction. “Some nations and some people melt in the heat of crisis and come apart like fat in the pan” (page 132). The villainous Highwaymen, drug addicts, and gangsters all came apart at the seams when their lifestyles changed for the worse.
I went to a party, And remembered what you said. You told me not to drink, Mom So I had a sprite instead. I felt proud of myself, The way you said I would, That I didn't drink and drive, Though some friends said I should. I made a healthy choice, And your advice to me was right, The party finally ended, And the kids drove out of sight. When the goblins learn that Lizzie does not plan to eat the fruit herself, they throw her money back at her and verbally and physically abuse her, pinching and kicking, tearing at her clothing, and smearing the juice and pulp of their fruit on her. My family vacation to the beautiful islands of Hawaii was an adventure of a lifetime. The moment we stepped off our 737 aircraft, we felt at home due to the lei greeting from the welcoming natives. The air was so much different in the Pacific. It was crisp, almost like a baby taking his first breath of clean air. We felt alive.
He had presented this idea to her with a dozen red roses, a box of Godiva Chocolates and airplane tickets. The rooms were booked at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel. She accepted the invitation and looked forward to the beach. Long sandy beaches with palm trees, long evenings of romantic settings, a perspective of Hawaii that was so different from her previous experiences. Landing in Los Angeles they quickly deplaned and took a limousine to the Beverly Wilshire Hotel.
Trapped by Michael Northrop When school closes early because of the snow coming down, Scott and his friends decide to take advantage of the extra time to work on a go-kart they've been building in shop class. But with nearly everyone else having left the school, and the snow coming down faster and faster, they realise they may have made a terrible mistake. So begins a chilling (sorry!) tale, which sees seven students struggle to hold on as the weather gets ever worse. I normally don't comment on the presentation of novels, but have to make an exception here because Trapped really is superb in that respect.
Once we actually got out of the White Bear South Campus parking lot we took a new road where not many others were headed thinking to ourselves that there would be much less traffic. To our surprise, there was a profusion of traffic. The problem here is that it has been snowing all day and this made the roads slippery and unsafe. While making our way down the road we saw a gathering of different cars slipping into the snow banks. We of course as teenagers just laughed it away and thought to ourselves ‘learn how to drive dummy’.
