Silent Snow, Secret Snow tells about a twelve-year-old boy Paul Haselman, who had peculiarity in his mind. He found a great way in creating his own world, which was different with the reality. The rocking horse winner is a story primarily focusing on the desperate urge of a young boy, Paul to be "lucky" having understood the meaning of the word "luck" in a different and rather a corrupted light. Paul Haslemn from Silent snow, secret snow finds it more and more difficult to pay attention to his class work, and grows far apart from his family. Paul muses about his secret, the world of snow that is slowly replacing the real world. This started when he was lying in bed one morning waiting for the postman. Paul was waiting to hear footfalls, the boy imagines that they have been softly fallen snow, and is surprised when he looks out the window and discovers that there is no snow on the ground. Paul’s increasing distance and indifference to the world around him alarms his parents. He has to fight to get dressed and converse with others, because of the attraction of his daydream about snow. They finally call in a physician, who makes a house call to examine Paul. After see-through that he likes to think about snow, Paul tears himself away from the meeting with the physician and retires to his room. When his mother follows him, he tells her "Go away... I hate you!", and is lost in the dream world of the snow. The rocking horse winner kid Paul lives in a family that is poor. The mother is always talking about how they don’t have money. Paul loves to ride his rocking horse and fantasizes about the horse races. Then his Uncle Oscar takes him to the races. Paul tells him what horses to bet on. He tells his Uncle that he and his friend Bassett bet all the time and have lots of money. Uncle Oscar doesn’t believe him because he is just a young kid. Then they go to the races and
