Concert Critique – Dave Matthews Band - 31 August 2012 The Dave Matthews Band is one of the most popular touring bands in the United States of America and enjoys a huge following. The original members of the band are Dave Matthews (acoustic guitar/lead vocals), Carter Beauford (percussion, back-up vocals), Boyd Tinsley (violin), and Stefan Lessard (bass). Jeff Coffin (saxophone) joined the band in 2008 after founding member, LeRoi Moore died in 2008 from complications from a motor vehicle accident. Each summer, since the late 1990’s, The Dave Matthews Band embarks on a cross-country tour that draws hundreds of thousands of fans and loyal listeners. On August 31st, 2012, the band played an outdoor concert at the Gorge Amphitheater in George, Washington, playing a 25-song set, almost 3 hours in length.

He has been a leading guitarist in jazz since the 1980’s. He has a very unique style of music that can be expressed as folk, country, classical, and of course jazz. He is well known for the effects and sounds that he is able to produce from his guitar. Bill was born in Baltimore, Maryland but soon moved to Denver, Colorado where he was raised.
Syd Barret, once a creative guitarist, with an artistic vision to collaborate light shows with the psycheldelic sound of the sixties. Shine On You Crazy Diamond was dedicated to him and the legacy he left behind. The beginning of the piece creates a calming sensation that is abrubtly followed by an energetic burst of instruments, suggesting perhaps that Syd could never just be laid back. I believe he was filled with a sense of wild creativity, when I listen to Pink Floyd’s debut album “The Piper At The Gates of Dawn” (EMI Colunbia, 1967) I hear the work of a wild and creative mind for example, listen to the song Intersteller Overdrive, featuring disjointed, distorted guitar sounds randomly played, this characterises Syd Barret’s “style ' The Music Part I The introduction begins with the fading in orchestra like passage of a string synth pad in the key of G-minor created with an EMS VCS 3, ARP Solina and a Hammond organ. The intro is not unlike that of a feature film that promises some unknown adventure, like a building storm.

There group is really one of a kind, and I never heard a group that can sing the way they can before. The lyrics by Kenneth and L.A Reid was written for a movie, but end up blowing up to be one of the best r&b songs ever written. End of the road set the record of 13 weeks on the charts beating Elvis Presley record. To me lyrics are telling a girl even though we have broke up, I still have love for you. There also pouring out there heart trying to get the girl back because they can’t live without her.

The album’s big day it came out to public was in 1961 and fans loved the sound they heard coming from Mr. Coltrane. My Favorite Things is the longest tune on the album being 13 minutes and 44 seconds.
