I think it is clear that young people are not deterred from bad behavior by just the fear of punishment. Kids know then a person's “bark is bigger than their bite.” At the same time,if a young person sees someone else get punished for problem behavior, this might deter them by proxy. The idea of general deterrence is that just one punishment is enough todeter other people if the situation is taken care of quickly enough. General deterrencerelies on the idea that, if young people believe that society both intends to punish criminalacts and that they are able to, they will be deterred from committing a crime by thesefactors and this awareness. One example of this is that more police officers can go onto the police force, so that the young person sees them everywhere and believes that they mightcatch them.
Just because a child commit’s the crime, doesn’t mean that the crime wasn’t committed. The victim (if there was one) still suffered. Violent crime should receive the harshest of punishments and it’s said that the children should be equivalent to that. The reason juveniles should be tried as adults is because it will not only help them understand the event of their action but also discourage the juvenile from any crimes in the future. It will automatically decrease crime rates in today’s society and hopefully make it a better place.

Some would argue that corporal punishment is needed to discipline child where others will argue that it is not needed. Forty years ago it was acceptable to punish your child as you saw fit. The problem became that some would take this punishment to a whole other level and hurt the child. Punishing your child for their bad behavior should never cause them physical or mental damage.

Jurors have to accept the fact that teens brains aren’t develop and still may act like little kids. Also the fact that teens are so rough towards one another there brains aren’t thinking on what can happen if there physical towards people violently.
Steinberg argues that children “12 and under” should be considered as juveniles in the judicial system (Steinberg). He believes that he potential for juvenile to change is much greater than that of an adult. Research shows that youth, twelve years old and under, do not effectively understand the way the judicial system works. Steinberg truly believes that children should be punished for their crimes; however, they should not endure the same harsh punishments of adults. Adolescence, 16 years of age and older, do not differ from adults in many area, that could prevent them from participating in a fair trial.

To some extent I agree with the idea that juveniles should be tried as an adult when they commit murder or any other heinous crime resulting in the life of another person; however, I disagree that all juveniles should be tried as adults due to the fact that their brains aren’t fully developed in the sense that the crimes they may commit are out of spontaneous action. The youths that are being tried in the adult courts should be offered to better themselves as for they are not fully developed at the ages under eighteen. Punishing a teen by taking away their rights for life is not helping the betterment of society. Another person in prison means more local taxes for another set of clothing, more food, and occasionally, more space to be built. A psychologist could benefit from these children who caused trouble, especially if the trouble was un intentional.
