We look towards transcripts of the Scopes trial, and other written works for primary sourcing. Most of the other information comes from law divisions of universities. Images were found using the internet as well. Research of the Scopes Trial had many primary resources to consult, the transcript was the most helpful because the arguments made during the trial gives a still relevant case for teaching evolution in America today. Citations of these sources were created using the website, Easy Bib along with the annotations accompanying the citations.
Cody Janowski 12/2/10 English Comp Assignment 4 The Internet has undoubtedly changed the way people live their lives. Any information we could possibly want- and more- is at our disposal, and has made life for us incredibly convenient and easy; some, however, might say too easy. One of these people is Nicholas Carr, author of the article “Is Google Making Us Stupid?” featured in the July/August 2008 edition of The Atlantic. Carr argues that the Net seems to be slowly demolishing our abilities to concentrate on one subject, as well as contemplate information, based on the ease of access to everything the Internet provides today. I agree with Carr to an extent; however I would say that his theory most certainly does not apply to everyone.
The victim will have to go through the court process, which in many ways can cause the person to be victimized again. When a plea bargain is done just so it can get off the “docks” it can but a negative perception from the community of the justice system. Plea bargaining is a win/win situation neither of the counsel’s lose. The judge’s caseload is lessened because there is no need for a trial. With the defendant they get a shot at leniency from the judge.
With so many people around the world entering information online, there was a need to properly categorized data so it can be found by the search engines. Google, Bing, and Yahoo the major players on Internet search engine employed algorithms to help users to find information. Search engines created ranks to classified information, as a means of separating professional written articles from armatures. Perhaps, the most significant metric used by search engines is authority; it measures the degree of information on a specific keyword or term. Tevin Hutchinson 11/10/2012 English 102 Technology plays a huge role in our everyday life. I do believe that technology has made our lives easier, but it also has made us more dependent on the technology itself. When using the internet for a dictionary you could easily get distracted. Anyone can put anything on the internet, so what you find might not be accurate. Most people find that looking things up on the internet is distracting because you are already on the web so why not check YouTube for a funny video, or update your status on the social network.
Primary sources are those that bring us closest to an actual record of events as they occured, and usually involve data such as eye-witness first account public records and publishing's. Secondary sources are the most common form used, and take the form of anything recorded after an event's occurence as a reference point. Books; journal's, magazines and anything recorded after an event has taken are the most frequently used. Quotations and other famous persons perspective of something can also be very useful as a reference to researching anything. It is usually however due to modern technology and access to public record that we usually cite specific pieces of data and information from the internet's various scholar based search engine and published encyclopaedia's.
Television allows people to know what’s going on in the world, it gives people endless hours of entertainment, and it even has a certain value in advancing people’s knowledge on certain topics. Whether or not people take advantage of the perks of television is the choice of the lifestyle they have chosen to lead, but the option is still available to them at any given moment. Many people could say that television is ruining American society, but that is hard to believe, seeing as it is probably the strongest, most widely available tool anyone has to get the word out about whatever they wish to say. With this being said, it is obvious that
The amount of data and free press is unprecedented and as someone who has grown up with such technology virtually constantly at my side it not difficult to immerse myself in this digital age and culture of limitless connectivity. For better or for worse, the internet has undoubtedly had an impact on my life. It can be, if you so wish it to be a wholly welcoming world – when you have the ability to contact the billions around the globe. They say that university is much different to high school in that now you are exposed to so many different people from such vastly varying backgrounds that it is hard to form the stereotypical clique and be as discriminatory. The internet is so much more than that.
Judges need more discretionary power, as imprisonment is not effective in rehabilitating all offenders. Parliaments should have less influence on the administration of justice. Politicians are wholly concerned with winning votes and decisions they make might be popular with the majority of society but they can be detrimental to the process of rehabilitating offenders, and reducing chances of future recidivism. The legislature should be able to pass laws against any act or omission of duty that results in harm to society but leave the interpretation and application of those laws to judiciary, which is concurrent with the Separation of Powers Doctrine. Judges should be able employ other methods if they feel that they will be more successful.
