College athletes must work extremely hard in the classroom, harder than most students, as well as extremely hard in their sports, and that results in them not being able to obtain a part time job outside of their sport. Additionally, the university and NCAA make a large amount of profit off sports as well as the memorabilia associated with sports that athletes fuel the sale of. They do not get to obtain any of the money that is made off of these items. Last of all, college sports are a full-time job. When an athlete decides to pursue athletics in college, it shows that playing that sport is a passion of that individual and that they have worked hard to get to the point they’re at.
Should College Students Be Paid For Playing? College athletes for a long time have been a part of the controversy. They should get paid for many reasons. First, would be college students are not even allowed to have a job. How are they going to pay for particular expenses by coming from a penniless family?
People who go to college now pay to go there and if they fail a class they just wasted a lot of money. If the government paid for everyone’s education then no one would think they would have to work hard and they would think they would have to work hard and they would end up failing once they moved in to there career. The only people that deserve to go to college for free are people that earn a scholarship or those who apply for financial aide. These programs are there for the people that have the desire to go to college. Most people that think a higher education should be free are not very wealth but there are programs like financial aide to help them if they have the desire to get a higher education.
During college, kids become adults and need to pay for their own things because their parents aren’t going to pay for them forever. Athletes may take out student loans and put themselves in debt. Paying college athletes would make them less dependent on their parents and more dependent to pay off their debts and for their own things. Not all college sports athletes have insanely busy schedules, but a lot do, like division one football or basketball players. Football and basketball are very popular and commonly watched sports around America.
The giant donations received from these types of students can be put to great use, one of these uses is funding scholarships. While I agree that it is temporarily unfair that students can buy their way into a college, because it effectively takes away spots from other students who worked harder then them. But because that money can then be used to directly help fund scholarships for more students so they can attend a college where they otherwise wouldn’t of been able to, it more then balances out the injustice of the original students that were passed over. When it comes right down to it, students that can afford to pay millions of dollars for their admittance serve a greater good then the average student. Critics would argue that when colleges let in students based on financial donations as opposed to academic prowess, they are actively devaluing the value of the education received at their
It is a fact that by going to college a person will get better jobs for higher salaries. People also attend college so he/she can choose a high paying career. A person will lead a better and less stressful life if their financial status is never a problem. That would leave time for many things that could enrich a person’s life as opposed to working for ninety percent of it. Without going to college, people will make minimum wage, if he/she do make good money, it is because he/she are breaking their backs for it.
In my family that statement is true. I have many family members who did not receive higher education once they graduated high school. Looking back as a child through the years I have witnessed them being taken advantage of due to the lack of education and knowledge of the situation they were in. I promised myself I was not going to be put in that situation of not knowing and being taken advantage of due to the lack of education. A college education, in the world today, allows you to advance in society and earn more money no matter what level you achieve.
That is what scares a lot of people, and keeps them from attending school. Getting an education can get you a great job, whether it’s in the real world or as an athlete. Although it is possible, getting a good paying job is tough with the economy. It is way easier to get a high paying job if you go to college. You do this by getting a major in a field of study.
By paying scholarly athletes a wage and or salary you are giving them an incentive to work hard not only in the classroom but also out on the field. IV. Professional athletes get paid a salary, and although gambling does sometimes occur in professional sports it is not as common as it is in collegiate games. By paying the collegiate athletes a salary you are giving them a reason to work hard and actually play. A student is only able to play if he/she is eligible and so if a student isn’t eligible he/she won’t get paid.
Bijena Adhikari Jerome Parent English 121-56I 03/29/2012 The value of college In this century “the value of college” has been a big debate among the parents, student and the professor themselves. College is not a gateway which guarantees better jobs and better salaries, but it definitely makes a huge difference while accruing one. College is a guideline for stepping out in a real world and tackling real problems. While the tuition fees are increasing every year so as the curiosity, is it worth spending that huge amount of money? And after graduating will there be a secured job?
