Participation in college athletics is a fun and enriching experience for many students. But it can also be a very weary experience financially; many college athletes have signed petitions demanding that they get paid for their services as an athlete. Some people disagree with this idea because college athletes already receive benefits from the program thus they should not be compensated. Many people underestimate the dedication and work it takes to be a college athlete. College athletes should be paid for their hard work and dedication. College athletes receive enough benefits from the program therefore should not receive additional compensation. College athletes live in luxury compared to other college students who are knee deep in college debt and have a part time job while maintaining their grades. College athletes receive full scholarships and advanced education and an opportunity to be a professional athlete after college. The money that the school receives from college athletic programs is compensation enough. Based on the academic and athletic pressures placed on college athletes it would be fair that they be paid for their hard work and dedication. Did you know that the amount of time college athletes train and work in sports is about the same amount as an average American employee works at their job. Spending a lot of their time training and working does not give them enough time to get a part time job. Many college athletes come from impoverished areas so they are not able to get the money they need from their families. So should college athletes be paid? College athletes should be paid for their hard work and dedication even though others may disagree and say college athletes already receive enough benefits from the program therefore should not be compensated.
