There are good nursing homes, and there are some elderly that need them. Another thing that the article mentions is how some senior citizens need regular monitoring due to their conditions that assisted living can not provide. The writer states that “those whose use of blood thinners involves regular testing to adjust the dosage. Assisted living doesn’t provide much health care, so residents risk becoming ‘frequent fliers’ — they’re going in and out of hospitals for conditions that could perhaps be treated in a nursing home.” The main purpose of assisted living is to reduce clients from going in and out of hospitals. If professionals that are involved in assisting the elderly cannot fulfill that need of providing health care, then the best thing for the senior citizens is to place them in a nursing home.
Some people’s physical and mental abilities deteriorate faster than others’. This does not mean that the elderly population does not deserve respect. I am not biased toward the elderly. When I take care of my patients, whether my patients are elderly, homeless, or alcoholic, I always see myself in them and think that I will be in that bed one day. I also believe that family members should support their elderly parents or grandparents because when they were young, the elderly were the ones who care for them; so, now it is their responsibility to care for the elderly.
If women did have jobs, it would be limited to a maid, a nurse or a teacher. Most of these women working before World War Two were mostly not married. In this time, they didn’t have a husband or children so they needed to support themselves by going to work. Women took these jobs because men said it was easier and they have experience with cleaning and cooking. They were maids because like in their homes, they either cleaned up for themselves or for their children.
Programs that were in place for the care of people who cannot afford to pay are being considered for cuts and many people are uncertain how they will care for themselves when the time comes. Elderly suicide is real and prevalent and some consider this to be a viable option for not ‘burdening’ the system or their families. Identify two key health care-related challenges to this population, such as increases in health care costs, or the need for in-home medical care. “The need for in-home care that will keep people safe and healthy in their own homes is a growing necessity.” (Garrett, N., & Martini, E. 2007) In our society, we will continue to see a rise in the utilization of both of these programs. Many do not realize how cost effective it is to have services in their own home and are quickly moved into an assisted living community by their families without even considering other options.
Home Hospice Care: The Better Alternative Caring for people while they are dying takes a compassionate and caring person during what is an extremely sensitive and difficult time. Home Hospice Care’s (HHC) sole purpose is to treat those who are nearing the end of their lives in the comfort of their own home. Patients do not have extra money to spend on expensive 24-hour institutional care, and it should not be when Medicare covers home hospice care. Hospice provides the peace of mind that people want when going through such a difficult time. There is a support system built in with HHC which is designed to help the patient and their family, as well as providing other health benefits.
So many people want to be independent but this actually creates a problem, more seniors are relying on community facilities or retirement homes to assist them with their daily living. Another thing about seniors is that they want to stay in their homes but cannot be able to afford the mortgage or let along the up keep of a home. So a great number of seniors are having to turn to retirement homes or even assisted living facilities. I believe that another reason why the health care is facing this problem today is because a great number of family members do not have the patience to put up with their loved one so they send them to an assisted home or even a retirement center. Which is sad to me because an individual’s mom and dad raises them but when it comes to the time for them to take care of them they just ship them
I felt such sadness and concern for her, but I was unsure of what to do. This situation is what inspired my topic. There are many things that disturb me about how elderly people are treated. I find it incredibly appalling when I hear stories about elderly people who were brushed aside in our health care system when they needed surgery because a younger, healthier person needed to have a procedure done. My grandmother was once told by a physician that she must not want to go through the hassle of heart surgery “at her age”, as if there was little to no point in her having it done.
This could almost be dismissed as a hangover from traditional values or the result of still-prominent stay-at-home mothers, except that it remains true when both members are working full-time, and even in some cases where only the woman is in employment. One explanation given for the unwillingness of men to take part is that the male gender role has not been challenged as strongly as its female counterpart, so many men feel threatened on a primal level by the prospect of child-rearing and domestic labour. This is backed up by the fact that it is even more pronounced when the man is unemployed, suggesting he has a greater reason to feel insecure in his masculinity. Whatever the cause, all signs point to women suffering a dual-burden; having to hold
Seniors Should Age In Place C.P The elderly help pave today's society by giving knowledge and wisdom to the younger generations. Yet as soon as an elderly person becomes perceived as a burden, people are ready to ship them off into a nursing home. Most people think, “what if my mom or dad falls?” “I don't trust my parent at home alone when it comes to cooking”, “what is there for my mom or dad to do at home besides get into a mess?” “What am I suppose to do with them?” for all of those questions and statements there is an alternative option. “Aging in Place” is the term used for seniors staying in their own home as they get older. This paper will argue that seniors should age in their homes rather than being relocated to institutionalized care.
If the funds have been set for that purpose, family members can divide the budget by doing the tasks themselves rather than hiring someone. When having the elder patient at the home makes it a lot easier to help with that person better or a daily basis and watch his action. It is more convenient than having to travel to another place to visit. There is a long waiting process that nursing home and other institutional settings are not getting the right treatment and they do not take care of the elder as good as the family members would. I lead to stress over the decision.
