George Washington: American Hero There are many American heroes of the 18th century, men such as; John Adams, Benjamin Franklin and Patrick Henry. All of these men have made great contributions shape the United States of America. Although one man in particular stands alone. George Washington, a man who loved his country and never gave up, and the father of the United States of America. George Washington was born in Westmoreland County, Va., on Feb. 22, 1732. Washington was the oldest child from Augustine Washington, his fathers second marriage. In 1743, when George Washington was eleven years old, his father died and George was sent to live with his oldest half-brother Lawrence, at Mt. Vernon. From then on Lawrence became like a second father to George, he raised him to be a man and taught him the importance of hard work. Around the age of seven, George began his education where he learned lessons in arithmetic, writing and reading. With all the success and leadership for our nation, George Washington was named the first President of the United States of America on April 30, 1789. Serving for two terms and turning down a third, Washington returned to his Virginia home. George Washington will forever be a hero in American history. Serving for our nation and building the foundation of what is now the United States of America, George Washington is a man who epitomizes what an American is and should be.
