Watches have been a tool designed to help mankind to be precise on time. Over the years, there have been many different types from pocket watches to wrist watches. It is a small portable timepiece that displays time, and sometimes the day, date, month and year. It is especially worn on the wrist or in the pocket. Showing the time for centuries, watches have evolved from the usual mechanical form into a digital form. Somehow, the mechanical form of watches still captures the interest of many watch enthusiasts today. Some are willing to spend millions just to get a hold of their favorite mechanical watch. There are two companies that have truly provided an exemplary product within the watch industry, Seiko Corporation and Fossil Incorporated. These companies are quite different in many aspects and in the following paragraphs you will find information about their products, financials and how they are fairing in this difficult economy. Seiko Corporation is a company based out of Tokyo, Japan which was established in 1881. Their first clock was created I the Seikosha clock supply factor in 1892, the first pocket watch in 1895 and the wrist watch in 1913. The pocket watch was appointed in Japans National Railway’s as the official “Railway Watch”. Seiko lunched their first T.V. commercial in Japan in 1953 and from there the company grew commercializing quartz clocks for broadcasting Seikos signature piece the Grand Seiko and the first portable quarts, chronometer, the QC – 951. In years to come the Seiko Corporation would take the watch industry by storm. In 1964 they provided the 18th Tokyo Olympic Games with 1,278 stopwatches and served as the official timer.
