School uniforms can also be a very uncomfortable fashion that students would not take a liking to. They also won’t be the “quick fix” that many people think they are. The first reason uniforms should not be required is that most schools across the country believe uniforms take away from an individual’s identity, so they don't require their students wear them. In today's world a person’s identity and having a good sense of self is important to the diversity that Americans have shown in the past. In schools that require uniforms the student body all look like the same person, very bland and boring people.
Generally schools require students to wear uniforms for the desire to increase the students’ academic levels. Many critics rebuttal that uniforms “infringe on student’s First Amendment right of free expression” (Kelly). Although the use of uniforms might take away some of a student’s freedom of picking what new outfit to wear every morning, to exercise the use of uniforms in a school environment gives the students more time to focus on their homework after school rather than
I have actually seen students being neglected by their own classmates because of this particular reason. The students’ main attention should always point towards education and not towards fashion. They have plenty of time to do fashion outside of the school. Even though students' individuality is important to express one's self, uniforms should be adopted in the school, because it lowers disciplinary referrals and helps students focus on learning. Schools requiring uniforms will experience reduction in violence.
The Clark County School districts policies were not intending to squelch free speech but instead were aimed at ‘creating an educational environment free from the distractions, dangers, and disagreements that result when student clothing choices are left unrestricted,’ said Judge Michael Hawkins.” (Egelko) If there is not a distraction of what people are wearing, there is more of a chance that students would focus more on learning. School is not holding a fashion show! Students are the leaders of tomorrow and the outrageous outfits worn by students need not to distract them. According to an opposing viewpoints resource center it says, “Uniforms instill discipline, helps students focus on their studies and eliminate
Searching Lockers Protects Everyone Why do so many students oppose locker searches in schools? Some students believe these searches invade their privacy and without a probable cause they should not be allowed. Others believe these searches help the school to be safe and therefore probable cause is not necessary. The schools should be allowed to search lockers randomly for the safety and well being of the students and staff. Only one violent student can jeopardize the safety of others.
The two authors, Yasmine Kalkstein and John Huss, express their thoughts on the advantages and disadvantages of school uniforms. It is a common belief that school uniforms prevent bullying According to Kalkstein, school uniforms are not responsible for the decrease in bullying and students will find other ways to compete and that uniforms have no direct bearing on academic achievement (25). While Kalkstein believes that are not necessarily benefit Mark Mathabane believes that school uniforms are actually a good thing. In the article “Appearances are Destructive” Mathabane talks about a personal experience where he enrolled his sisters at a public school near his home. Mathabanes sisters, who had previously lived in South Africa, were ridiculed by the other students because of their clothing (Mathabane).
SOL WRITING PROMPT PRACTICE Students should not be required to volunteer in their communities in order to receive their high school diplomas. This is because community service is not academic, volunteering is something that a person does if they want to help, not because they’re being forced to, and while some may say that community service looks good on resumes, if everyone does it then it’s not special anymore. Volunteering to do community service is a beneficial activity for the volunteer and the community, but making it mandatory to graduate defeats the purpose. High school diplomas are received based on a student’s academic credits and scores. Or at least they should be, because students go to high school in order to get an education and learn and improve their academic knowledge.
Many public school systems across the country are instituting school uniforms in an effort to improve overall school performance and to reduce negative behavior. The use of school uniforms is a topic of hot debate among parents and school administrators. Some argue the benefits of school uniforms, while others believe that the downsides are far more numerous. While you probably cannot influence what your school has already decided, you may have a voice on the issue of school uniforms in PTA meetings. School uniforms are a great way to maintain the level of social equality amongst the students of public schools.
“Uniforms Rule” by Pat Wingert talks about some advantages and disadvantages of uniform and how that affects school safety and student’s behavior. As in article, uniforms affect students in so many good and bad ways. As educators, researchers, and experts think of dress code and uniform as very useful school system which can solve so many problems that school is facing today, students tend to respond as their freedom and rights are violated. I agree with them because for the students to accept uniforms it may take some time. I think if all school has uniforms system than students will more focus on study not on fashion.
“Forcing students to wear school uniforms only aggravates their rebellious spirit.” More fights will start over pointless school uniforms. If everyone is dressed the same, and basically looks the same. Making students wear uniforms takes away student’s individuality and this want let them explore themselves to really see what they are. “Schools are now making students wear khakis and a shirt”. As stated in the in the “Parents battle over school uniforms” By Jim McConville.
