Saving Mother Earth: a Global Awareness, Everyone’s Concern

“Did you ever stop to notice... this crying Earth, these weeping shores? What have we done to the world? Look what we’ve done...” Part of Michael Jackson’s Earth Song that has an environmental theme. This song’s music video always gives me goose bumps and makes my heart cry in pain for our own Mother Earth for it clearly depicts the images of animal cruelty, deforestation, and pollution, it relays deep emotion of agony when everything that nature provides will be gone, it evidently knocks our head to realize all the consequences if we continue to take for granted all the signs of ecological unbalances and environmental problems that are confronting us. Our planet is changing. There is no doubt on that. Indeed, the sense of urgency behind the drive to save the environment is stronger than ever before. After all, we only have one planet; if this one becomes totally ruined, our children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren in the future will not have a home. More and more people are growing awareness about the different environmental problems we are all facing however only few are actually doing their part to solve this dilemma. Everyone talks about how to protect and conserve our environment, but no one seems to know what exactly to do about these problems of “healing and patching up the wounds of Mother Earth”. Instead of shrugging our shoulders and silently weeping over our lost paradise, we must begin to look at ways on how we can undo the effects of forest destruction, land degradation, atmospheric contamination, wildlife extinction and watersheds drought. One can always easily say “I Love Nature!” or “I would like to help protect nature but can I make a difference? I am an elementary school pupil only.” Of course you can! Everyone can make a difference no matter how big or little your participation may be. Simple means and action can already spark a
