The spread of these diseases among addicts has risen to such an extent that starting in the 80s, some activists and cities began opening needle exchanges. These are government-funded programs that supply clean needles to drug addicts in exchange for their dirty ones, so that they are at a lower risk of sharing needles and spreading diseases. Some people believe that these programs support illegal and illicit behavior, and say that the government should be putting more effort into reducing the use and flow of drugs onto our streets. Needle exchange programs can help benefit society by reducing the risk of diseases such as HIV and Hepatitis, steer addicts in the direction of recovery and help reduce the number of dirty needles discarded on the streets. HIV/AIDS is one of the biggest and baffling diseases our world has to deal with.
Should the Canadian government fund safe injection sites for drug addicts? 1. Introduction Substance abuse is probably one of the worst ways to degrade and disrespect your body, furthermore, people get addicted to sleeping pills, painkillers, tobacco and what about those of us caffeine-crazed individuals who will sit in a Tim Horton’s drive through for 20 minutes just to get our fix. How are these substances different from heroine, cocaine, LSD or Chrystal meth? The government has decided that addiction to these types of harmless drugs is okay, and then provides us with safe ways to access and ingest them.
With the needle exchange program across the globe, addicts are able to receive a clean needle for every used one they turn in, thus limiting careless or dangerous disposal of needles. It prevents innocent members from our society from being accidentally stuck with dirty needles or syringes, which were improper, disposed of. I know that most members of our society would not want to be associated with a person who was diagnosed with HIV / AIDS and Hepatic C. There is absolvely no denial that there are individuals living in our community who use needles and syringes to treat their medical conditions and or to inject illegal drugs. If you or a member of you family work as a doctor, nurse, medical assistant, waste haulers, recycling plant workers, janitor, housekeeper, and sewage treatment worker all of us could possible experience needlestick injuries; when used needles are improperly disposed of safely. Let not forget about the most precious commodities our children, Members of the general public, including children, can also be exposed.
A social environment risk factor for AIDS would be hanging out with people you know have HIV and AIDS and not using safe practices if you come in contact with their blood. Also, going to places such as strip clubs, or going to prostitutes who would not necessarily be honest if they had HIV or AIDS. These could also be examples of physical environment determinants of health. Access to quality health care is a problem for many people living within the United States. At least 20% of the population with HIV/AIDS is uninsured.
Canada’s health system remains far from perfect, and has much it could learn from other countries solutions. When comparing France’s healthcare system, some ideas could be used to make better solutions for Canada’s faulty system. Some of these changes include working with how taxes are being paid, and hiring more physicians. If Canada tried to work on these changes, perhaps Canada’s healthcare system would become much more efficient than it is
Because of its negative side effects it was restricted to veterinary anesthesia, then dropped from legal use. It was a widely abused drug in the 1970s but now its use has fallen to .2% of the population in the last month. Pure PCP is in crystal form and can be snorted, orally ingested, or smoked. Cigarettes and joints can be dipped in liquid PCP and smoked. The purity of a certain batch is usually unknown and varies widely.
Vaccinations Vaccines are not 100% safe, but what is? In the United States 350 people die from baths or shower related accidents yearly (Offit, 2012). People die from getting struck by lightening just by walking in the rain. Eating is a hazard for people because of the risk of choking but people still eat to stay alive. Getting vaccinated may have some risks but the benefits of getting vaccinated are way better than not getting vaccinated.

Decriminalization and Legalization of Marijuana By: Nicholas J. Howerton Possession of a small amount of marijuana should not only be decriminalized but legalized for a multitude of reasons. First the decriminalization of marijuana would reduce the overcrowding in our courts and give much needed relief to a strained police force. Plus the legalization of marijuana would open a whole new job market. The positive impact on the Canadian economy would increase the standard of living across the country. The decriminalization of marijuana would be a positive step for the Canadian government but the legalization of marijuana would do much more for this country and its people.
Healthcare Manifesto There is a huge issue in Canada today that must be addressed before the inevitable decline of our beloved country. The topic that needs to be discussed is the Canadian health care system. After the Canada Health Act was passed in 1984 Canadians have been enjoying “free” health care and this need to end now! The Canada Health Act states “that continued access to quality health care without financial or other barriers will be critical to maintaining and improving the health and well-being of Canadians”. Is this true?
