Run Lola Run Run Lola Run incorporates several techniques in order to create a thrilling story as Lola runs against the clock to get 100,000 marks for her boyfriend, Manni, in just 20 minutes. This is an extremely quick paced movie, as emphasized by making jump cuts and fast motions. There are also extreme angles to show the desperation of the two main characters, Lola and Manni. The obvious motif through this story would be time, or more specifically clocks, since all of the scenes are all different by only a few initial actions that completely change the course of everyone’s fate. The rapid montages he uses for extra characters Lola comes across show their future via photograph, all with different twists that depend on her actions. Along with this, there is almost always non-diegetic electronic music that sounds as if it would be played in a club to further incorporate the tension. The only time that the music slows down, as well as the pacing of the scene, is when one of them dies, transitioning into a memory of their relationship. When talking about the past at the beginning, there is black and white; however, during this scene after one dies where we see the two of them lying in bed together is shown through a red filter, which is actually one of the only scenes we see them together in. This contributes to the other motif of the color red. There are various red objects which are important, such as the phone and a bag used to rob the store, as well as her punky red hair. Her vibrant hair shows that she doesn’t fit in where she lives, which we can gain from the mise-en-scene of her room: very messy and disoriented. We see that she has trouble with her family because we later learn in the first scenario her father she goes to is not actually her real father.
