That changed very quickly as the Kings swept the series in four games and again moved on to the next round. This time it was the Western Conference Finals, only they’re second appearance in franchise history. The Kings faced a familiar rival in the Phoenix Coyotes. A rivalry brewed by hard hitting and constant battles every time they met. It took five games and some very opportune goals but the Kings pulled out a win.
With the recent success and the ending of drought of 88 years, the Chicago White Sox have the edge on being the better team in Chicago. The White Sox were a strong team during their first two decades, winning two championships in 1906 and 1917. In 1906 the team was nicknamed “The Hitless Wonders” because of their poor batting average as team. They redeemed themselves with their pitching to go on and win their first championship again the Chicago Cubs. The series against the Cubs would be the first intra-city World Series Championship.
The Heat won the series and went on to the NBA Finals to face LeBron’s good friend Kevin Durant and the Oklahoma City Thunder. Both Durant and LeBron did not have a championship at this time, which made it even more of a competition to win a championship. In game four, LeBron was taken off the court because he was experiencing leg cramps with five minutes left on the clock. Even then, noticing his team needed him LeBron stumbled back on the court and shot his last 3 pointer of the night in order to take the lead and win the game. In game five, he had his first triple double of the post season to help take the series and his first NBA Championship.
He had become the second heavyweight (Patterson was the first) to regain the title. Eleven months after whooping Foreman came the third match between Ali and Frazier; it was called Thrilla in Manila. Ali took the early rounds before Frazier hammered away in the middle rounds. But Ali showed the heart of the champion in the late rounds. He staggered Frazier in the 13th and, with the challenger's eye swollen shut, pummeled him in the 14th.
Some Texan fans started to think the game was over and the Texans would win. Little did they know they were facing the best quarterback, Peyton Manning. With 8 minutes left in the fourth, the Colts scored and finally took the lead, 21-20. I started to feel the momentum shift. A few plays later, the Houston quarterback threw an interception for a touchdown.
My birthday was Saturday August 8, which was also my first football scrimmage against Cordova High School. The scrimmage had been for three teams, Rosemont, Cordova and Capital, and my teammates and I were the underdogs of the whole thing. When we got to Cordova it seemed as though it was going to be a routine scrimmage, get on the field and kick some butt, but fate had other plans. Our team started off slow in warm ups, taking wrong moves and such, but we started to pull it together after about thirty minutes. When we entered the stadium to play we were a little early so we got some water and started getting each other excited to play.
The Miami Heat are on a 11 game winning streak and are playing great right now they are facing the Indiana Pacers tonight and will have a tough fight ahead of them. James has played out of his mind and has averaged 30 points for over 5 games straight Wade has been playing like he never had a knee surgery in the off season and the bench players like Ray Allen and Shane Battier are draining 3's and producing great defense and bench points. We are starting the second half of this game and the Heat are trailing 55 to 45. Dwane Wade takes the ball down and finds Lebron for an easy layup to close the gap down by 8 now. Connor Brady for the Indiana pacers takes the ball down and finds the open 3 ball to put the lead back up by 11.
We earned the number one seed in the section and were on our way to our goal. We got to our first game in sections against a much worse Truman/Martin Luther team. Nerves got to use in the first half and we were only up by ten points on a mediocre team. After our coach got on us during halftime, we came out in the second half and dominated the game winning 73-48. We had a great week of practice looking forward to the second game of the section playoff.
February 2, 2008 was our biggest most consequential game of the year, for our varsity school soccer team. The year could be described by some as a year of rebuilding and upset after upset. Yet to many of us it was a year of growing and building of friendship. The match that was lurking closer and closer was against Sunnyside High School who we had previously defeated in a nail-bitter style game. Nevertheless we knew not to underestimate them for they were currently ranked 2nd in this vast sate, that encompassed many commendable and worthy teams.
The time when every person in the world except me thought that the 2004 Western Conference Finals game was over. There were .4 seconds left on the clock, and the crowd had lost hope. The LA Lakers took a timeout to plan the shot and the other team, the San Antonio Spurs had already started to celebrate. Then one player stepped up and said, “I will take the last shot.” His players name was Derek Fisher. The Lakers in bounded the ball, and the ball was quickly thrown to Fisher.
