Unlike the first piece I described, Turner’s The Slave Ship is more dramatic and intense. Through this piece, Turner aims to reveal his anger towards the issue behind the slave trading. His use of quick brush strokes and powerful colors of red, yellow, and black parallels the intensity of the piece. His innovative style of painting by defining outlines expresses both the painter’s emotional response to the slave trade and the forces
The colors definitely are symbolic for different things. The horse is blue that usually represents being spiritual. Marc’s works generally showed the animals as simple and spiritual which this work does with the blue coloring. The rainbow shows the beauty of the earth but also the rigid lines cutting through them can mean the broken way the earth was at the time he painted it. These rigid lines are much like the industrial cities that were developing and could be shown as society versus spirituality in the rainbow and blue horse.
Romanticism and realism Romanticism Romanticism gained fame and momentum as a movement of art in the early 19th century and flourished till the 1850s. It was popular in France and Britain. Romanticism, which emerged as a reaction to the disillusionment with enlightenment involving order and reason after the 1789 French revolution, stressed on emotion and imagination. In romantic art, nature provided an appropriate alternative to the thoughts of enlightenment. In this case, nature was considered as unpredictable, had a great potential for extreme disasters and had uncontrollable power.
His paintings reveal his emotions and sensations and are expressionist in nature. His paintings project him opening his heart and soul and releasing his deepest feelings through images which are intended to embrace the observer. Van Gogh painted several series of sunflowers. The example that I will be using is the painting of the vase with several sunflowers. Van Gogh’s painting of sunflowers gives the viewer a closer look at the individual flowers because of the way he arranges them.
Through his subtle use of depth, atmosphere and form, the landscape appears to expand infinitely into space and nature seems to carry out its inevitable cycles to an endless rhythm. Through his expressive use of color, his painting arouses in us an emotional reaction to such sublime powers. It moves us to reflect on our own vulnerability at the mercy of nature, as we long for meaning and struggle to understand its provocative
This rise of Napoleon also triggered lavish spending, ultimately causing the French economy to suffer. “ (page 1) “The England was largely unaffected by the French Wars during the 19th century. However, much of the area ruled by the French allies in Europe suffered in the early part of the century because of Napoleon’s zeal to take over the world, England enjoyed the benefits of the Industrial Revolution, which brought prosperity, particularly from the textile industry. These technical revolution brought along with it new textile production. methods and influenced the development of European costume throughout the continent, extending to the Americas.” (page 2) “Inspired by the First Empire and coinciding with a narrower fashion period referred to as the Director that ranged from 1790 to 1800, the Empire era lasted from 1790 to 1820.
As traditional art forms had become outdates due to industrialization. It seems like the term “modernism” has been a conflicting term in the academic world. This is because the term “modernism” acquires a different scope and penetration in each different academic discipline. The inception of modern music typically located at the close of the 19th century, while to talk modern in English literature is to focus upon a relatively highly influential body of work produced in the first two decades of the 20th century. In the history of art, on the other hand, the student of modernism can expect to run a gamut from the French painting of the 1860s to the American art of a century later and may even be directed as far back as the later 18th century (Modernism, 2003).
When he felt he had the right image he would then project the slide onto a canvas and pencil in both lines and details. The reason why Goings was so amazingly talented is because he could paint the photograph with such profound detail that the audience would be able to see detail that they would typically not be able to see in reality. "My paintings are about light, about the way things look in their environment and especially about how things look painted. Form, color and space are at the whim of reality, their discovery and organization is the assignment of the realist painter." The painting called Ralphs Diner (1982) is a great example of the vivid detail he used with light color and texture.
FRQ #4 Discuss some of the ways in which Romantic artists, musicians, and writers responded to political and socioeconomic conditions in the period from 1800 to 1850. Document your response with specific examples from at least two of the three disciplines: visual arts, music, and literature. In the 1800s society changed completely. The Industrial Revolution changed the economy, families, and political situations between social classes. Romantic artists, musicians, and writers were people in society who expressed their views with an emphasis on feeling, emotion, and experience.
The Post Impressionism Era artists used techniques derived from the Impressionism Era, but also showed passion in their art. Vibrant and vivid colors were used by these artists to express their feelings. Symbolism was extremely critical to these artists as they wanted to express their emotions through their work, often utilizing real life subjects. (Post Impressionism, 2015). A3: Relationship between Impression and Post-Impressionism Eras Both Eras occurred in the 19th century in the country of France and began as a result of a group of people that wanted to provide a different approach to art.
