Nicole Lott Nancy Wall English 102 Football I have always loved watching my brothers play football growing up. I have always wanted to play football but I was scared of what others thought of me. Since 7th grade I have thought about playing football with the boys. My sophomore year of high school I decided that I was going to play football. My older brother helped me get things worked out with the head coach. Then I got into a weights class and got ready for next fall. Once the team knew that I was going to play football the boys were telling me how they were going to make me quite after the first day of practice. In most sports that are played mostly by boys, have an opioun that girls can’t do it as well as guys can. This hostility to girls that want to play football or wrestle for that matter is sexist. Sexism has traditionally been defined as a unitary hostility towards women (Aicher). This is what coaches and the guys that play on the team do if a girl wants to play football or wrestle. It is mean and rude, but it discourages the girls from trying out for the football team or wrestling team. It has been like that for years and no one should cross that line because it isn’t the traditional way. I broke the tradition I was the first girl to play football for the Snake River Panthers. Plus I had total support from my family. I asked my parents what they thought of me playing football. Asked them at different times so my mom said that would be fun but you have to be careful. It is her decision and I think the school and coaches should allow that right. I have met many girls that think I am awesome because I played football in high school. They always tell me I wanted to play football in high school. I ask why and they say my parents said no or something like that. My sister told me that she wanted to play football. I know lots of girls how would of love to play football in high school but since it is deemed a guys sport they don’t get a chance to play it with all the gear to hit someone really hard without hurt them too much. So I was talking to my mom about me playing football and she told me this, “Everyone wants to play football because it is fun to smear someone to the ground.” This made me laugh and smile because I think my mom is the greatest for being so awesome to say something this
