Burman Family Adoption Recommendation Elisabeth Meginness Western Governor’s University George and Amy Burman have been good friends of mine for nearly ten years. They live in my neighborhood and attend church with me. Amy and I teach Sunday School together for the four- and five-year-old class. George and my husband enjoy playing golf together and we meet often for dinner at our home or their home. They are applying for adoption of a child through your agency.
The family social support is the church they attend, grandparents, and friends who all assist with babysitting the children so the parents can work. Both parents are teachers, the parents are home with the children holidays, summer, and weekends. The children are involved in girl scouts, boy scouts, and summer ball. In the fall the children will join soccer. The mother is a leader of the girls scouts and a soccer coach.
We practice, share and teach our family and friends some of what we have learned and experienced throughout the years. In Alabama, the Southerners will gather for Sunday dinners, which may not be actual dinner but food eaten throughout the day. Usually my in-laws will go to church and come to Mom and Dad’s house. They will come as they are and eat, relax and enjoy each other’s company. In Guam however, we do Saturday barbeques.
Dumas stated, “Displaying the hospitality that Iranians so cherish, my father extended a dinner invitation to everyone who called”(321). “As a result, we found ourselves feeding dozens of people every weekend”(Dumas 321). Her mom intended dinner starting on Monday for the next weekend. Since she didn’t drive, her husband took her shopping every Tuesday for all the provisions she needed for the dinner. Availability and freshness of food and herbs determined how long the shopping trip would be.
Dad carved out ¼ of the second lot into our garden. He turned over the earth and plotted the layout of the fruits and vegetables that would grow abundantly in the garden. He worked construction most of his life. Work was plentiful in the summertime but during the winter months he would be laid off for the season and he drew unemployment. When my mom died in 1970, he bought
For the last 17 years I have spent summers with my dad in Utah and the rest of the year with my mom in Florida. My part-time Mormonism usually began the first weekend after the last day of school. I remember my brother and I being so excited to fly to Utah because the summer would kick-off with a big family reunion camping trip. During those summers, I was Mormon and everything we did revolved around the
As a child I visited Florida every holiday and a year later my mother decided to move to Florida. My first time visiting Florida was so memorable we would visit family members and eat at different restaurants. A favorite place for me when I visited Florida was the getting my hair braided at the shop and going to the race track. I remember when we visited the race track Mr. Gerald Alston a famous singer treated me and my cousin our favorite place we enjoyed riding the race cars, playing games at the arcades. It was wonderful all the children were steering at us while we attended the race track with Mr. Alston; their parents were amazed at the singer spending time at the race track with kids in public.
The hero in my life would have to be my “granny” Beverly Ann Pinckney Jefferson. She is a caring, motivated, optimistic, and loyal individual that I know I can always count on. My granny is a woman that cares for everyone. She would care for a complete stranger if she feels he or she needs assistance. She is also known to be faithful and helpful
Eulogy to my great grandmother Your Strengths, your Eminences, your Excellencies, distinguished guests. To Friends and Families and Colleagues and the rest of Alice’s beautiful family and to May and to Evelyn, we are here to grieve with you and more importantly we are here because we love you. Life sometime can be really hard to understand and the hard times that we have faced together as a family. Life cannot be defined but it will always be a memory to us and always will be kept in our heart. The moment when I recall my past memories, I get consumed by them as my great grandmother passed away and this would bring tears to my eyes over and over again but as time passed on I got stronger and faced this situation and this in turn made me a strong human being.
She is a very resilient woman who is smart, beautiful and loving. The other person I live with is my step-father, and he is the only father figure I have ever had. My step-dad is laid-back, understanding and has very good values. Another very important person to me is my sister, Destiney. Although she doesn’t live with me she is a huge part of who I am and also a huge inspiration to me.
