The legalization of marijuana is an extremely controversial topic in America, and it has been for years. It is well known that legalization could better our country’s economy, lessen crime, and can benefit those suffering from painful health conditions. So besides the few I have listed, what is the actual problem here? The US government is too frightened to step out of the box and give us, the people, a chance to legally use marijuana for recreational use based on decades of false negative publicity on the matter. Years of ridicule and the constant reminders of the fact that marijuana is the “gateway drug” contributes greatly to this problem.

One can draw parallels between these factors and the American society today and we should learn from the history of Rome so as not to follow the same path. The first factor that I find extremely important is the economic factor. One can draw many parallels between the Empire of Rome and our economic woes that we are feeling today. During Rome’s decline, the military was overstretched and underfunded. Emperors overtaxed the population and overregulated the market place and would often purposely debase their currency by reducing the precious metal content.
Rome proved to be a regime that stayed on top of the weaker states below it but was eventually ruined by a combination of inside decline from the volume of inescapable tasks to run a world empire and outside attack from those who didn't approve. Therefore, America should not aspire to be the Global super power because of the vast unpopularity towards such a world and the damage such power could cause to the state of America. Firstly, leaders in most of the countries of the world favor a world with many powers cooperating to deal with international issues, and greatly contest a world dominated by one country. In fact, two-thirds of the world see American domination as a threat to their ways of life. Asia, Europe, and the Middle East to name a few, regularly protest that America is too arrogant when talk of the USA is brought up.
That’s why the red queen was always fearful. In life you have to be kind but not too much, but in my opinion I do think that being feared is way better than being loved. Often kings or rulers of empires in history are feared by people and the outside invaders are also feared by many people, that how they take over land. When you work at a company, you’re usually scared of your boss because he could fire you and he could give you a raise. Also, my uncle went to boot camp because he was going to the marines, and he told me that the people there try to scare you.

Many may argue that the falling economy and the wealthy not wanting to share their shares is to blame for the raising rates of poverty here in the states. Poverty of course, has a lot to do with money and income but underneath that it is has a deeper story. Stories of how different people are suffering from it and how they are managing to live day by day. It almost seems as if it’s a foreign nation of its own and you only understand the concepts if you are in it. There is no doubt that here in America we are dealing with one of the greatest economic downfalls.
