There are a few symptoms from pink eye that you should defiantly know about like, red eyes, clear or cloudy eye discharge, light sensitivity , matting of eyelashes, especially in the morning and itching of the eyes. If you have symptoms of pink eye, you should seek prompt medical attention. Other problems, like abrasions or foreign bodies in the eye, can produce similar symptoms and need to be ruled out. A culture of the eye discharge may be needed to know what type of antibiotic will be most effective. If you have a viral or bacterial form of pink eye - which is very contagious - you need to take measures to decrease the chance of spreading it to others or reinfecting your own eyes: Change pillow cases, towels and washcloths daily.
Recent studies have shown tattooing is associated with Hepatitis B (HBV) and Hepatitis C (HCV). According to Brown, Perlmutter, and McDermott (2000), even with “proper sterilization, studies suggest tattooing ink can become contaminated and transmit HCV [or HBV]. Though most regulated and professional tattooists now take precautions to avoid exposing customers to HBV and HCV from contaminated needles, ink receptacles, or the tattooist’s hands, such precautions may not be observed [with] tattoos from less-skilled acquaintances, in unregulated tattooing establishments, or on the streets.” (Hepatitis
Opposition to tattoos and piercings While the markings and pieces of metal are sometimes subtle and well concealed, some are so garish to suggest a competition to see who can be the most extreme. Whether tattoos, piercings and body modifications are good remains a debated question? One cannot deny that without proper precautions there may be several consequences. The wide spread of tattooing brings about increased concern for safety and awareness of hazardous conditions. Transmissions of infectious diseases, such as hepatitis B and C, and theoretically, HIV, can occur when proper sterilization and safety procedures are not followed.
There are many problems and complications for tattoos for minors and young adults. The health concern should be the main focus. Blood borne diseases such as Hepatitis B and C, HIV, and Tetanus could be transferred if tattooing is not done properly by professional in a professional environment. Allergic reaction, skin infection, and nerve loss are some other less dangerous concerns. These medical issues occur because no one really knows what they are injecting into their skin; instead, they just worry about what shape of tattoo to get.
This goal targets the prevention of mortality from health care-associated infections caused by several different drug resistant organisms, surgical related infections, and infections of the bloodstream related to catheter insertion. Catheter insertion requires regular practices that include hand sanitation before catheter operation (Singleton, 2008). The concern of this goal is the prevention of infection. Utilization of hand cleaning guidelines that are provided by the World Health Organization and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is required in hospitals. Hospitals must also submit reports of injury and death to patients that result from infections that were acquired while staying in the hospital (2009 Hospital National Patient Safety Goals, 2008).
September 11, 2001 was a day so many people lost their loved ones which was such a sad day even till today. As the country is going through this great loss, a lot of Americans are also concerned about bioterrorism attack and everyone is talking about small pox being released to the population again. As we are all aware, small pox is a disease that that we have worked on all these years and it has been eradicated with the help of vaccinations here in the United States. But due to the terrorist attack, Americans are really concerned that the terrorist might want to re-infect the citizen of United States with small pox. The CDC organization is in charge of small pox vaccines and we are assuring the citizens that we have a plan to make sure that we distribute these vaccines as soon as possible as needed.
Jacklyn Casper Written Communication Learning Plan 4 September 26, 2012 Living with MRSA Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus, also known, as MRSA is a serious infection that can become life- threatening if left untreated. Most carriers don’t realize they have this infection due to no symptoms. This staff infection can cause physical pain and emotional stress, but keep in mind that it can be managed. There are steps you need to take to become aware of what this infection is, how to avoid spreading it to your family and friends, and living with MRSA. Staphylococcus Aureus is a bacteria that runs in the blood, which may or may not cause an infection on the body.
Isolation methods for patients are used with strict precautions such as hand washing, sanitizers, and other barriers for workers and visitors. New information is released to health departments and schools for prevention measures. Furthermore, the CDC (Center for Disease Control) gives media reports to keep the public informed of new information. Consequences of not controlling outbreaks of MRSA are easily seen as large numbers of the human race would succumb to MRSA infection. There are consequences seen already because of strict precautions taken.
Many in our care have also got weakened immune systems and as a consequence are more susceptible to infection from the outset. We want to give the patients in our care the best treatment and quality of care possible and this would not be possible without infection control. Were we to neglect patient control their quality of life and indeed health would deteriorate, they would get sick and suffer and in extreme cases would die. This runs totally contrary to the attitudes, duties and commitments we hold so dear as healthcare workers. In this assignment I will introduce, explain and discuss one of the most topical worldwide infections in the workplace – mainly hospitals and other places of healthcare environment; MRSA.
It is important to practice safe sex with all partners, especially if you or they have high-risk sexual behaviors. STDs is a serious illness that requires treatment. Some STIs, like HIV, cannot be cured and are deadly. By learning more about STDs, we can learn ways to protect ourselves from these diseases. Common STDs • Genital herpes • HIV/AIDS • Genital warts • Hepatitis B • Vaginitis • Chlamydia • Syphilis • Gonorrhea • Trichomonias OPINION: Since the STD seems to be very dangerous and highly communicable therefore we should follow proper measures/precaution to reduce it.
