Elie was a Jewish boy who was very strong in his faith before the holocaust. To him, his religion was everything to him. He had a strong love for his God and believed that no matter what, his God would always be there to guide him and see through the darkness that life sometimes sends us. To Elie his faith gave him hope, a way to get through any obstacle that he faced. When they were abolished from their village by the German soldiers, many things started to change. For example, Elie could no longer worship in the open,if at all, which tore him apart because at that point, that was just about all he had left.
